Slowpoke (Japanese: ヤドン Yadon) is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon. It first appeared in the Generation I games.

Slowpoke comes with one of two Abilities: Oblivious, which prevents attraction; or Own Tempo, which prevents confusion.

Slowpoke can evolve into one of two Pokémon: into Slowbro starting at Level 37; or into Slowking via link trade while holding a King's Rock.

Name origin

A slowpoke is simply a term for someone who is slow. The yado in Yadon may be from 宿借り yadokari, hermit crab. Alternatively, it may also be derived from 宿主 yadonushi, (parasitic) host. Also, 鈍感 donkan means thickheaded or stolid.

Slowpoke's original English name was "Slowmo".

In the anime

Slowpoke's first appearance was a brief one in EP017. Ash's Pokémon asked it for help, but didn't respond. It evolved into a Slowbro at the very end of the episode.

Slowpoke's first major role was in EP066. Ash and co. asked for the help of Professor Westwood to help figure out why Slowpoke only evolved into Slowbro when a Shellder clamped on its tail (a question that was giving Prof. Oak a headache). Westwood's Slowpoke evolved when a Shellder that Jessie caught clamped on to the Dopey Pokémon's tail.

Other appearances

Super Smash Brothers Melee

Slowpoke is a Pokéfloat. It initially has its tail curled towards its body but the tail lazily becomes straight and fighting moves there until Wooper appears.
