Jumpluff (Japanese: ワタッコ Watacco) is a dual-type Grass/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves from Skiploom starting at level 27. It is the final form of Hoppip.

Physiology

Its body is blue and round with cotton puffs on each side of the body on the ends of what appear to be its arms, and one on its head. It has feet and a small tail.

Special abilities

Jumpluff can use its fluffy cotton spores to float through the air. These spores can control its flight even in the extremely high winds of a hurricane.

Officer Jenny had a Jumpluff in An Egg-Sighting Adventure!. Jenny used this Jumpluff to dust for footprints left by the criminals who supposedly stole Ash's egg.

Tammy had three Jumpluff in I Politoed Ya So!.

In the manga

In Pokémon Special, Eusine owns a Jumpluff which he uses to fly to different places. Another Jumpluff appears in the FRLG saga owned by Orm from The Three Beasts Rocket Trio.

  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: A Jumpluff seeks the help of Shiftry to rescue its friend, another Jumpluff who is trapped in the Silent Chasm. Shiftry fails and the player has to go to the rescue. For the rest of the main game, they are seen around Pokémon Square. Shortly after the end credits, both Jumpluff fly away on the winds.

Trivia

  • At 6.6 lbs, Jumpluff is the lightest Pokémon that has undergone two evolutions.
  • Jumpluff is one of nine non-Bug, Flying-type Pokémon that cannot learn Fly.
  • Jumpluff is the only Grass-type that has undergone two evolutions and does not use an evolutionary stone to undergo the second one that is not a starter Pokémon as well.

Origin

Jumpluff appears to be based on the seeds of the dandelion, which are frequently blown through the air. It also has the appearance of a cheerleader, a purpose it often serves in the anime.

Name origin

Jumpluff's name is a combination of jump and fluff. Its Japanese name is based on 綿 wata, cotton and 根っ子 nekko, root. Along with its preevolutions its name is a reference to 'Hop, Skip and Jump'.
