Mankey (Japanese: マンキー Mankey) is a Fighting-type Pokémon.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Gold
It is extremely ill-tempered. Groups of them will attack any handy target for no reason.
Pokémon Emerald
When it starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough, it's a sure sign of anger. However, since this happens instantly, there is no time to flee.
Pokémon FireRed
Light and agile on its feet, and ferocious in temperament. When angered, it flies into an uncontrollable frenzy.
Pokémon LeafGreen
Extremely quick to anger. It could be docile one moment, then thrashing away the next instant.

Name origin

Mankey's name is simply a misspelling of the word monkey.

Considering its pig-like nose, its vestigial tail, and overall personality, Mankey have much in common with baboons.

Obtaining

In side games

  • Pokémon Snap: There are three Mankey throughout the stage. The first is seen early on, yelling at you from a distance in front of Mt. Dugtrio. When the river first starts getting very rapid, another can be seen on a ledge on the left side of the river, also yelling at you. The last one is on top of a large mound, yelling at you as well. This one, however, can be knocked down by hitting the Squirtle at the base of the mound and making it roll up the mound. Aim it right, and it'll roll right into the Mankey! This Mankey will fall on a switch, opening up the route to a little pond. This also puts Mankey in a close spot for good pictures of it yelling at you.
