(Japanese: バルチャイ Baruchai) is a dual-type Dark/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
It evolves into Barujiina starting at level 54.
Biology
Physiology
Baruchai resembles a baby vulture. It has a plump, stout body, tiny wings, and stumpy feet. Its neck is short and supports a round head devoid of any feathers except for an enormous crest on the top.
Gender differences
Baruchai is a female-only species.
Special abilities
Baruchai are uncommonly skilled at finding skeletons and using them as armor.
Behavior
It has the tendency to use broken skeleton pieces, most likely skulls, as diaper-like clothing to protect its rump. It will chase after weaker creatures.

Trivia
- According to Game Freak, Baruchai was not designed nor created by Ken Sugimori. It was created by James Turner, making it the first Pokémon to be designed by an American.[1]
- Its evolution however, is designed by Sugimori himself.
- Baruchai can be seen as a counterpart to Washibon: Both are dual-typed Flying Pokémon that are described as eagles, are members of a two-stage evolutionary family who evolve into their final form at level 54. They are both also members of a single-gender species (Baruchai is exclusively female, whereas Washibon is exclusively male).
- Their movesets are also substantially similar, sharing the same number of start moves and level-up moves, with all of their level-up moves occurring at the same levels. Many of their moves are either the same or share the same theme: Both start with a basic Flying-type attack and Leer; at level 5 they both learn Fury Attack; at level 14 both learn a status move that provides a total of two levels of stat increase (Nasty Plot for Baruchai, and Claw Sharpen for Washibon); at level 23 they both learn a STAB variation of Swift (Baruchai learns Faint Attack, whereas Warshibon learns Aerial Ace); at level 32 they learn Defog; at level 37 they both learn Tailwind; at level 41 they share Air Slash; at level 55 both learn Whirlwind, and at level 59 they learn Brave Bird.
Origin
Baruchai is based on a vulture chick.
Name origin
Its likely a combination of バルチャー baruchā, vulture, and チャイルド chairudo, child.
