Walkthrough:Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon/Part 2

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
These pages follow the enhanced versions, not Pokémon Sun and Moon. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 1

Home

The following day, as you and mom are enjoying another Alolan dayUS/nightUM, the doorbell rings again. Mom asks you to open the door, only for Kukui to let himself in again. He's here to take you to the festival in Iki Town, but now that you have your own Pokémon, there is something he would like to show you first. The professor leaves to wait outside for you. Instead of traveling west, head east this time and follow the path northward.

Route 1

Kukui is waiting near a patch of tall grass, where he and his Rockruff demonstrate how to catch a Pokémon. After the tutorial, he gives you ten Poké Balls and five Potions to prepare you for your travels. You are now free to explore the route, and begin catching Pokémon of your own! Route 1 is largely divided into three parts—the area near your house; the northeast cliffs overlooking the bay; and the path near Iki Town. The wild Pokémon species found in these areas vary by location, as do their levels. Before the festival in Iki Town, wild Pokémon cannot break out of the Poké Balls thrown at them.

Two strangers are standing right in your path at the top of Route 1. They exchange cryptic remarks indicating they are not from Alola, and refer to something called "The Blinding One." They briefly greet you and take their leave, leaving you to continue up the stairs.

Iki Town Festival

Iki Town

As you enter Iki Town, Hala approaches you. He explains that the Alola region is made up of four islands, each with its own guardian Pokémon. The festival held here is meant to express thanks to the guardians for their protection.

Rival Battle 2

Hau can be found a short distance ahead, while Kukui and Lillie arrive a moment later. Kukui explains that during the friendly competition, people battle in the name of Melemele Island's guardian, Tapu Koko. Hau cannot wait to battle, but Hala takes a moment to heal your Pokémon first. The kahuna delivers a few remarks before you and Hau step up onto the stage.

Hau has caught a Pichu since your last battle with him. Its Static Ability can paralyze your Pokémon if they make contact, in which case the Paralyze Heal from earlier will help. Hit his first partner Pokémon with supereffective moves to deal extra damage.

Rowlet
If the player chose Rowlet:

After the battle, Tapu Koko can be heard in the distance in a cry of approval. Hala then equips you with a Z-Ring, fashioned from the Sparkling Stone he borrowed. This bracelet is said to draw out the power that lies deep within a Pokémon, known as its Z-Power, but requires a Z-Crystal to function. He believes that Tapu Koko has a mission for you, and the kahuna and the professor encourage to you begin your island challenge. Kukui says that he will explain more a bit later, so for now he and Lillie accompany you back to your home.

Route 1 (Hau'oli Outskirts)

The next dayUS/nightUM, the doorbell rings again. It's not the professor this time, but Lillie. It seems that Kukui sent her to show you the way to his Pokémon Research Lab. Before you can leave, Mom walks outside and gives you $30,000 to see you on your way.

Head south across the street and down the hill. Here, Lillie informs you that Nebby is a Cosmog, a rare Pokémon from far away, and that it once saved her from a group of people who want it for its power. Since only those she trusts knows about Nebby, she asks that you keep it and the events at Plank Bridge a secret. She goes on ahead, so follow her southward to find the Research Lab on the beach.

Pokémon Research Lab

Lillie is waiting outside the lab. Inside, Kukui asks to see your Pokédex for a moment, and upgrades it with new parts that were just delivered. With this upgrade, the Pokémon Rotom, which has a body similar to electricity, can inhabit the Pokédex and act as a virtual assistant, resulting in the Rotom Pokédex. Hau arrives and tries to check out the loft, but is stopped by Lillie, who notes that she has been staying there. The professor then directs you to the Trainers' School to learn the basics of Pokémon training.

After you, Kukui, and Lillie step outside, the sky momentarially darkens. Lillie remarks that it must be an eclipse, to which Kukui agrees, noting, however, that an eclipse was not forecasted for today.

Afterwards, head back north to the main road and turn west to find Lillie. She leads you inside the Pokémon Center and explains the services offered. The nurse at the counter will heal a Trainer's Pokémon to full health for free. The PC on the counter is always available for Trainers to organize their Pokémon. Poké Marts offer a wide range of items for sale, from Potions to Poké Balls. Finally, the Pokémon Center Café sells various drinks, which come with a free item and some Poké Beans with your first drink order of the day.

At this point, several new Menu options are now available: Quick Link, which allows trading and battling over a local Wi-Fi network, and Festival Plaza, which does the same for players worldwide. The Plaza also enables access to the GTS, where Trainers can search for or offer specific Pokémon to trade; and Wonder Trade, where Trainers can send a Pokémon off to a random Trainer somewhere around the world and receive a random Pokémon in return. QR Scanner and Battle Video have now been added as well.

Leave the Pokémon Center and head west to find Lillie. A Tauros blocks the road farther west, so follow her inside the Trainers' School instead.

Trainers' School

Trainers' School

Outside the Trainers' School, Kukui introduces you to one of their Teachers. She intends for you to battle four of her students to gain some real-world experience. Kukui gives you the Exp. Share, a very useful item that will distribute the experience points earned from every battle among your entire party, even to Pokémon that did not participate. Visit the school to brush up on the basics; the left room on the second floor is particularly full of useful books and blackboard notes.

Explore the grounds to take on the teacher's challenge. Lillie will heal your Pokémon whenever you speak with her.

A Preschooler inside the building, at the front of the classroom in the west hallway A Rising Star on the courts in front of the school; refuses to battle until the others are defeated

After defeating Rising Star Joseph, he rewards you with TM01 (Work Up). Just then, someone calls you over the PA system, making Lillie wonder what you might have done. Head to the school's second floor, where you are met by the teacher. She is impressed that you have defeated her students, and would like to battle you for herself. She uses the starter with a typing that is strong against the one you chose, so you may want to lead with a different Pokémon for this battle. Upon her defeat, she gives you five Great Balls as a reward.

Kukui and another man, who introduces himself as Captain Ilima, arrive soon after. Ilima welcomes you to Alola and says that he will be looking forward to you taking on his trial, then leaves. The entire school gathers to see you off, and Lillie decides to show you more of the city. Unfortunately, that wayward Tauros still acts as a roadblock. Hau and Hala are there, and the latter requests you pat Tauros first. The Pokémon is calmed and Hala leads Tauros away, leaving you free to head into Hau'oli City with Lillie and Hau.

Hau'oli City

Hau'oli City

Situated between Route 1 to the east and Route 2 to the north, Hau'oli City is the largest city in Alola. A bustling tourist spot, it consists of several districts: a Beachfront, a Shopping District, and a Marina.

Beachfront

The Beachfront is a single stretch of road with several inaccessible buildings to the north and the beach itself to the south.

Shopping District

The Shopping District consists of several unique venues, including the local tourist bureau, shopping mall, and apparel shop, among others. There are a number of gates around the city that lead into yards filled with tall grass. At the moment, several of these gates cannot be used due to wet paint.

Alola Tourist Bureau

The Alola Tourist Bureau is the first building past the Beachfront. It exhibits a promotional video of the Alola region and hosts plenty of local goods and souvenirs.

Item Giveaway

Hau asks the receptionist on the right about a special item giveaway for Trainers who have a Rotom Pokédex. The item turns out to be a Poké Finder, which allows the Pokédex to take photos of Pokémon in their native habitats. Photos may only be taken at certain locations, revealed when the icon on the lower screen changes to a camera. Each picture receives a rating called a "Thumbs-Up" score, which adds to a Trainer's cumulative score. As the total number increases, several new versions can be unlocked. Pokémon found through the Poké Finder will be registered as seen in the Pokédex. Outside, the man near the broken wall gives a short tutorial.

Loto-ID

The receptionist on the left conducts the Loto-ID. Once per day, Trainers can draw a Loto Ticket and check that number against the last five digits of the OT number of all Pokémon in their party and PC storage. Even partial matches can win a prize!

Apparel shop

The apparel shop is located to the west of the Tourist Bureau. It sells fashion items, offering tops, bottoms, socks, and hats.

Lillie speaks to you before you can enter. She received a free item inside for being the 99,999th visitor, but already has one and gives the spare to you. The Lens Case holds colored contact lenses, allowing you to change eye color in the fitting room of any apparel shop. Female Trainers will also receive a Makeup Bag, which enables the changing of lip color.

Salon

The salon is located just west of the apparel shop. The prices and general options are the same for male and female players.

  • Cut: $4,000
  • Color: $2,000

There is also a Beauty in the salon who will groom your Furfrou for $500. All trims are available.

Shopping Mall

The shopping mall stands just west of the salon, but is currently closed.

Alola Photo Club

Main article: Alola Photo Club

The Alola Photo Club allows the player to take photos with their Pokémon.

Totem Stickers

At the end of the street, the player meets Ilima once more, seen putting up a golden Totem Sticker on the side of the Pokémon Center, because a group called Team Skull has been stealing them. Grab the totem sticker that Ilima just put up, and search for the others located throughout the city.

Pokémon Center

The Move Deleter can be found inside the Pokémon Center, near the Poké Mart counter. Although not a hugely important place to visit, the Move Deleter is helpful for deleting unwanted moves.

A Beauty standing near the Pokémon Center Café would like to see an Abra. Abra can be found in the grassy areas of the Shopping District. Show the Pokémon to her to receive a reward of $10,000.

Ilima's House

Ilima lives the house to the southwest, on the water's edge. He is not home at the moment, but you can find an Ether in the yard and receive a Lumiose Galette from his mother inside.

Hau'oli City Hall

Hau'oli City Hall is located in the Shopping District, south of the local Pokémon Center. Its motto is "Serving the city's every need!". Clerks working here deal with the process of moving to the region, amongst other things.

Hau'oli Police Station

The Hau'oli Police Station is located a short distance from the Marina. There is a police vehicle parked in its backyard.

Malasada Shop

Main article: Malasada

The city's malasada shop is found on the way to the Marina. It is famous for its malasadas, a type of doughnut, which are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

The left attendant sells Sweet Malasada for $200, which is immediately fed to a Pokémon and increases its Affection. Other shops elsewhere in Alola offer different flavors.

The right attendant sells Big Malasada for $350. When used from the Bag, a Big Malasada cures confusion and status ailments like sleep or poison. With high demand for the fried food, the shop sells only one to each customer per day.

VS Team Skull

As you walk down the southern street, Hau stops you to show you the Malsada Shop. Two members of Team Skull approach you mid-conversation and challenge you to a battle, with the intent to steal your island challenge amulets. You and Hau take on one grunt each.

VS Ilima

After you defeat the grunts, Ilima heals your Pokémon and challenges you to a battle to see if you are ready for his trial. His Smeargle knows a move that is supereffective against your starter Pokémon.

Marina

The Melemele Ferry Terminal is located to the south.

Melemele Ferry Terminal

The ferry is not running at the moment, but there is still plenty to see on Melemele Island. Head north from the city to reach Route 2 and Verdant Cavern, the trial site of Captain Ilima!
