Continuing where the previous episode left off, Necrozma fully emerges from the Ultra Wormhole and chases after Lunala, as the Ultra Guardians and the Aether Foundation staff watch. Professor Burnet realizes it was Necrozma who drained the Ultra Aura as it begins absorbing Ultra Aura from Lunala. Kiawe realizes that Lunala and Necrozma are headed towards Melemele Island and Lusamine sends the Ultra Guardians to defend Lunala. The Ultra Guardians mount their Ride Pokémon and fly after Lunala and Necrozma.

Meanwhile, at Team Rocket's food truck, Jessie and James do nothing but sigh and groan, much to Meowth and Wobbuffet's concerns. Meowth shouts at them to stop, but they continue to laze around. Then, Meowth spots Lunala and Necrozma flying around and tries to get his teammates to look, but they aren't motivated. Meanwhile, aboard the Team Rocket helicopter, the Team Rocket members are affected by the Ultra Aura depletion and become lax as a result. Matori asks Gozu what's happening as ever since they arrived in Alola, she's been feeling lax as Gozu replies that he's been feeling the same thing. Then, they are contacted by Meowth, who is surprised at Matori wearing a Grunt uniform and asks where she is. Matori replies that it's none of his concern and asks what's the matter. Meowth tells her about Lunala and Necrozma appearing above Melemele Island, and Matori tells Gozu to set course for Melemele Island. Jessie asks if they're not going to catch it, and Matori replies that they are, specifically referring to her elite, Matori Matrix unit and tells the trio not to bother them as she cuts the transmission. Jessie rants about Matori acting all high-and-mighty towards them and her vanity as Meowth is happy that Jessie is back to normal, only for her to go back to being lazy. Meowth tries to get his teammates back in high spirits, stating that if Matori succeeds, then she'll get a promotion and be able to boss them around even more, to no avail.

Meanwhile, Lunala and Necrozma are above Melemele Island's beach, Hala and his Hariyama see them and get worried that if a battle breaks out, there will be trouble. Then, Lunala flies towards them, but Necrozma is blocked by Tapu Koko, allowing Lunala to get away, and Tapu Koko hits Necrozma with Dazzling Gleam, knocking it back. Necrozma sees Lunala fleeing and chases after it. Hala wonders what Necrozma is as the Ultra Guardians catch up to it and Lunala. Necrozma attacks with Psycho Cut, but Lunala dodges and retaliates with Moongeist Beam. Necrozma isn't fazed and hits Lunala with another Psycho Cut. Lunala fights back with Moonblast and Air Slash, then uses Phantom Force to ambush Necrozma as Mallow, Sophocles, and Lana are amazed at Lunala's power. However, Necrozma gets more cautious and when Lunala tries to use Phantom Force again, it strikes Lunala with another Psycho Cut.

Ash and Gladion have their Garchomp and Noivern use Dragon Pulse and Boomburst on Necrozma, but this only angers Necrozma as it unleashes Prismatic Laser on the Ultra Guardians, causing Lillie to fall off Altaria, but fortunately, she is saved by Lunala. As Lillie gets back on Altaria, Ash and Gladion thank Lunala for saving Lillie. Kiawe, Mallow, Sophocles, and Lana have Charizard, Flygon, Metang, and Dragonair use Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Flash Cannon, and Ice Beam respectively on Necrozma, but it is still unfazed and attacks with more Prismatic Laser, forcing the Ultra Guardians to fall back. Poipole however, is fixated on Necrozma as Rotom realizes that Necrozma's back looks like the symbol that Poipole drew before, meaning that Necrozma may be connected to the Blinding One. Necrozma grabs onto Lunala and starts absorbing its Ultra Aura. Rotom also notes that Necrozma might be trying to possess Lunala itself. Gladion attempts to stop Necrozma and has Noivern use another Boomburst and a Bite attack, but Necrozma shakes them off, causing Gladion to fall off Noivern, but he is caught by Ash. But by this time, Lunala is weakened as Necrozma splits up its body and merges the parts onto Lunala, becoming Dawn Wings Necrozma.

As the Ultra Guardians watch in surprise, Dawn Wings Necrozma gets captured in an electromagnetic net from Matori Matrix's helicopter. The helicopter begins reeling in Dawn Wings Necrozma, but it breaks free as another Ultra Wormhole opens up and Nebby comes through it. Ash is happy to see Nebby and hugs it, and then, Nebby turns to Dawn Wings Necrozma and attacks with Flash Cannon, but Dawn Wings Necrozma counters with Prismatic Laser. Then, Nebby hits Dawn Wings Necrozma with Sunsteel Strike, which causes Necrozma to separate from Lunala and fall into the sea. Ash cheers at Nebby's win, but the weakened Lunala falls onto the beach. Nebby goes to Lunala's side, but it is attacked by the helicopter. Gozu calls for another electromagnetic net deployed at maximum power. A Grunt tells him that it might damage Solgaleo and Lunala, but Gozu doesn't care and tells her to do it. The electromagnetic net captures Nebby and Lunala, but Gladion and Ash have Silvally and Pikachu use Air Slash and Thunderbolt on the net, freeing Nebby and Lunala; the former uses Flash Cannon on the helicopter, forcing it to retreat. But then, Necrozma recovers and targets Nebby. It grabs onto Nebby, splits up its body, and merges the parts onto the latter's body, becoming Dusk Mane Necrozma. Dusk Mane Necrozma opens up and Ultra Wormhole and goes through it. Ash tries to chase after Dusk Mane Necrozma, but the Ultra Wormhole closes before he can go through.

Meanwhile, back at the Pokémon School, Professor Kukui and Samson Oak are sleeping, when suddenly, they are revitalized. Back at Team Rocket's food truck, Jessie and James also get their energy back and drive off to go find Lunala and Necrozma. Onboard the Matori Matrix helicopter, the crew is thinking about just giving up, when they suddenly get re-energized and reactivate optical camouflage to wait for their next chance. The Aether Foundation staff arrive at the Ultra Guardians' location, where they are caring for Lunala. Lunala is brought to the Ultra Guardians base to heal. Gladion asks about the creature that possessed Nebby, but Lusamine doesn't have much information and simply decides to call it UB: BLACK. Kukui and Samson Oak enter the base and see Lunala. The kids realize that the adults are back to normal as Lusamine believes it's due to Necrozma absorbing Nebby's Ultra Aura. Burnet and Wicke come out of the medical room and reveal that Lunala's treatment is done, and now, they just have to wait for Lunala to recover its strength, much to everyone's relief.

Ash remembers how the mural at the Altar of the Sunne had an image of Necrozma on it, and Lusamine states that there might be a connection between the Blinding One and Necrozma. Rotom asks Poipole why it drew the symbol, and Poipole attempts to explain, but no one can understand what it's saying. Then, Faba runs into the room with data on the helicopter from earlier, revealing that the helicopter belongs to Matori Matrix, an elite unit of Team Rocket, angering Ash. Faba notes that they'll have to take Matori Matrix into account in their counter strategy against Necrozma. Lusamine leaves the kids to watch Lunala as the adults go to plan the next stage of action.

Next day, at sunrise, the Island Kahunas visit their respective ruins: Hala at the Ruins of Conflict, Olivia at the Ruins of Life, and Nanu, with Acerola, at the Ruins of Abundance; where they pray as their islands' respective Guardian deities watch. Back down in the Ultra Guardians base, the Ultra Guardians watch as Lunala sleeps, and then, their Z-Rings and Z-Power Rings glow orange and give energy to Lunala, who wakes up and shatters the glass around the room.
