Mightywide River (Japanese: ヨーヨーリバー Yōyō River) is a location on Belusylva Island of the Lental region. It was added in the version 2.0.0 update to New Pokémon Snap on August 4, 2021.

Layout

The route follows the course of a wide river, with dense jungle lining the banks of the river. Several riverbends are followed by a short waterfall which the NEO-ONE follows, which then opens up to a wider part of the river. A larger waterfall to the right of the path empties into this wider section where Magikarp nd Gyarados can be found. The river then narrows to a short section of rapids, before the river empties into a lake. Pokémon such as Wooper, Quagsire, and Tropius can be found throughout the route, alongside several flying Pokémon including Toucannon and Vivillon.

Alternate routes

  • The moonlit cave can be unlocked in both the Day and Night routes. It is first unlocked on research level 2 of the Night route. This can be accessed by using the scan function when approaching hanging vines past the large waterfall where Beautifly are perched upon. This cave contains Cleffa, Morelull, and Drilbur. This altnerate path can then be unlocked on the Day route on research level 3. Once unlocked, it can be accessed on all research levels on the Day and Night routes (excluding Day research level 2).
  • On research level 2 on the Day route, a Quagsire will jump into the water as the player passes by the large waterfall, which slightly diverges the path of the NEO-ONE. While this doesn't introduce new Pokémon to the course, the player can take closer pictures of nearby Pokémon like Tropius.
  • On the Night path, a Feraligatr can be seen roaming around on top of a rocky ledge at the first riverbend. Throwing a fluffruit at it will cause it to reappear just before the first waterfall drop. Once it reappears, it will dive off the cliff in front of the player and shift their path to the side. This allows them to take closer pictures of Pokémon like Ariados and Ursaring.

1-3 Grookey appears at various points along the route alongside a Sobble. It will initially appear at the start of the route on the righthand side with Sobble. Here, it may interact with other Pokémon, such as a Wooper on research level 2, and Aipom on research level 3. It can be found walking on a rocky ledge opposite the large waterfall later in the route, and sleeping with Sobble and Tropius at the end of the course.

Magikarp
1-3 Magikarp can be found at most points along the waterways of the river. They may jump out of the water in response to a scan or a fluffruit thrown into the water at various points along the river.
★★★★ Research level 1-2: Bubbles will appear on the surface of the water close to the Psyduck being chased by Aipom. If an Illumina orb is thrown at the bubbles, a Magikarp will jump out of the water and flail on the ground. Scanning will prompt the Psyduck to approach Magikarp and use Confusion on it.

Aipom
1-3 A group of Aipom appear walking along a rocky ledge then climbing over a tree that acts as a bridge across the sides of the river early in the route. They will then chase after a Psyduck to the left of the path after the first riverbend. On research level 3, they will appear at the start of the route, and one hidden in the bushes on the right will accompany Grookey and Sobble if a fluffruit is thrown at it. Aipom can also be found on the ceiling on the alternate route, and at the end with Tropius if the Aipom is made to follow Grookey and Sobble at the start of the course.

Metapod
1-3 Several Metapod can be seen at the start of the route, and another clinging on a tree at the first riverbend.
★★★★ Research level 2+: An Arbok swimming at the start of the route can be illuminated with an Illumina orb. Scanning will then cause Arbok to surface onto the land, startling the Metapod and causing them to use Harden.

Beautifly
1-3 Beautifly can be found flying through the route, including at the start and end of the route, as well as on the alternate path in the Moonlit Cave.

Arbok
2-3 An Arbok appears swimming in the water at the start of the route. If it is illuminated with an Illumina orb and the scan function is used, it will slither onto the land. It will then reappear to defend Psyduck from the Aipom (research level 2) or Ursaring (research level 3). A second Arbok can be found sleeping on a tree branch near the large waterfall on research level 2. Using the scan function will cause a nearby Magikarp to jump out of the water and cause Arbok to fall. This Arbok will then reappear on the patch of land just past the large waterfall.
★★★★ Research level 3: If Arbok is illuminated at the start of the course, followed by the scan function, it will reappear to defend Psyduck from Arbok. If an Illumina orb is thrown at it while it is attacking Ursaring, it will use its tail to successfully intimidate the Ursaring away. It will then reappear at the end sleeping while cuddled up with Psyduck.

Toucannon
1-3 Toucannon can be found flying overhead various points on the route. Toucannon also appear on the patches of land around the large waterfall. If the last crystabloom on the main path has been illuminated, several Toucannon will land near it.
★★★★ Research level 3: Illuminating the last crystabloom along the main route will cause Toucannon to perch on the rocky ledge nearby. Playing a melody will cause Drilbur to jump out of the ground next to the Toucannon.

Wooper
2-3 Wooper appears at the start alongside Grookey and Sobble on research level 2, and can be seen again with the two friends on a rocky ledge opposite the large waterfall. A Wooper also surfaces on the ground after the group of sleeping Swampert. Wooper can also appear from its hiding spots in moving areas of water at the start of the route (if a fluffruit is thrown) or at the end (if an Illumina orb is thrown; research level 3).
★★★★ Research level 3: Bubbles of water appear at the surface of the water close to the start of the route. Throwing an Illumina orb at it will cause a Wooper to jump out and greet a Tropius. They can later be seen with Wooper flying on Tropius' head, close to where the Swampert and Quagsire are lying asleep.

Quagsire
2-3 Quagsire can be found next to the Feraligatr at the first riverbend of the route on research level 2. It will also jump into the water and disrupt the NEO-ONE's course at the large waterfall on research level 2. It can also be found sleeping on the alternate route, and also appears swimming at the end of the route.

Swampert
1-3 A group of Swampert appear sleeping to the left of the river after the large waterfall. A Swampert also surfaces out of the water if the second crystabloom on the alternate path is illuminated.
★★★★ Research level 3: Three hidden Swampert can be revealed by throwing Illumina orbs at areas of moving water - the first just past the large waterfall, the second outside the entrance to the alternate route, and the third inside the Moonlit Cave near the second sleeping Feraligatr and Quagsire. Another patch of moving water will then appear at the end of the route. If an Illumina orb is thrown into the water, the three Swampert will jump out of the water.

Sobble
1-3 Sobble appears at various points along the route alongside a Grookey. It will initially appear at the start of the route on the righthand side with Grookey. Here, it may interact with other Pokémon, such as a Wooper on research level 2, and Aipom on research level 3. It can be found walking on a rocky ledge opposite the large waterfall later in the route, and sleeping with Grookey and Tropius at the end of the course.

Feraligatr
1-3 Feraligatr appears from underwater at the first riverbend. Another appears swimming at the end of the route on research level 2. On the alternate route, one can be seen sleeping next to a Quagsire, while another will jump out of the water if the second crystabloom inside Moonlit Cave has been illuminated on research level 3.

Tropius
1-3 Groups of Tropius can be found at several points on the route, including on the patch of land after the large waterfall and at the end of the route. A lone Tropius appears at the start of the route and others can be seen flying along the course of the river on research level 3.
★★★★ Research level 1+: Throwing an Illumina orb at Tropius will cause it to jump off the ground and hover just above the ground.
Research level 3: Bubbles of water appear at the surface of the water close to the start of the route. Throwing an Illumina orb at it will cause a Wooper to jump out and greet a Tropius. They can later be seen with Wooper flying on Tropius' head, close to where the Swampert and Quagsire are lying asleep.

Psyduck
1-3 A Psyduck can be seen being chased away by Aipom near the start of the route. A second Psyduck will jump out of the water if an Illumina orb is thrown into the water close to the large waterfall. Psyduck will also appear swimming down the river on the main and alternate routes, and will surface onto land after the group of sleeping Swampert on the main path.
★★★★ Research level 1-2: Bubbles will appear on the surface of the water close to the Psyduck being chased by Aipom. If an Illumina orb is thrown at the bubbles, a Magikarp will jump out of the water and flail on the ground. Scanning will prompt the Psyduck to approach Magikarp and use Confusion on it.
Research level 3: When Ursaring has approached Psyduck near the start of the route, throwing an Illumina orb at Psyduck will cause it to use Confusion.
Alternatively, if Arbok is illuminated at the start of the course and followed by the scan function, it will reappear to defend Psyduck from Arbok. If an Illumina orb is thrown at it while it is attacking Ursaring, it will use its tail to successfully intimidate the Ursaring away. It will then reappear at the end sleeping while cuddled up with Psyduck.

Ursaring
3 Ursaring will appear after the first riverbend, chasing away a group of Aipom. Another appears sleeping on a tree branch near the large waterfall. Using the scan function will cause a Magikarp to jump out of the water, causing Ursaring to fall. It will then reappear on the patch of land just past the large waterfall. Ursaring also appear sleeping at two other points later in the route.

Drilbur
3 Several Drilbur appear in groups throughout the route. They may tunnel into the ground occasionally. The first can be found at the start of the route if Arbok is made to surface onto the ground. Another larger group appears above and beyond the sleeping Swampert and Quagsire.
★★★★ Research level 3: Illuminating the last crystabloom along the main route will cause Toucannon to perch on the rocky ledge nearby. Playing a melody will cause Drilbur to jump out of the ground and pose.
Alternatively, playing a melody as the NEO-ONE passes by a group of Drilbur high on a rocky ledge after the large waterfall will cause them to dig into the ground. They will reappear by digging out of a wall further down the river and fly across like a propellor.

Cleffa
1, 3 Cleffa appear on the alternate route and will dance in response to a melody.
★★★★ Research level 3: Activating the first crystabloom on the alternate route will cause Cleffa the appear out of the grass (throwing several Illumina orbs will summon more a group of Cleffa). Cleffa will then start using Metronome, and they will summon a tornado.

Gyarados
2-3 Gyarados appears when the crystabloom behind the large waterfall is activated. It will then reappear at the end of the route.
★★★★ Research level 2+: Gyarados will appear once the crystabloom behind the waterfall has been illuminated. When the last crystabloom on the main path has been illuminated, once the NEO-ONE Reaches the end of the route, Gyarados will perform a big leap towards the NEO-ONE from behind.

If Feraligatr is made to dive into the water at the start of the course, Aipom will appear on the tree branch in the river near the large waterfall (instead of Feraligatr sleeping on the branch).

Playing a melody when all four appear will cause them to run down the cliff and follow the NEO-ONE. They will wave as they follow on, and throwing Illumina orbs at them will cause them to balance on their tail.

Quagsire
1-2 Quagsire appears with two Wooper to the left of the path after the first riverbend. Another can be seen with a Wooper on a ledge near the rapids. A Quagsire can be seen sleeping on an embankment after the large waterfall on research level 2. It can be awoken either by illuminating the Tropius that appear towards the start of the route, or after illuminating the Ledian hidden behind vines just after the Quagsire. Playing a melody will cause Quagsire (and Wooper) to reappear in the moonlit cave.

Feraligatr
1-2 A Feraligatr appears walking on the rocky cliff to the right of the path at the first riverbend. Throwing fluffruit at it here will cause it to jump in the river a few moments later, causing the NEO-ONE to come off course slightly. If this event is not triggered, it will reappear sleeping on a branch sticking out of the river near the large waterfall. Feraligatr can also be found on the embankment before the rapids, and at the end of the route. One will also be found swimming in the river at the start of the route on research level 2.
★★★★ Research level 1+: If the Feraligatr on the rocky ledge at the first riverbend is hit with fluffruit, it will dive into the water later in the course.

Tropius
1-2 Several individual Tropius appear throughout the route, occasionally sleeping or drinking water from the river. If illuminated, they will fly away and reappear later in the route. A Tropius can also be found sleeping with Morelull before the rapids, and several can be seen at the end of the route.
★★★★ Research level 1+: Throwing an Illumina orb at the Tropius past the large waterfall will cause it to jump off the ground and hover just above the ground

Psyduck
1-2 A Psyduck can be seen on the left of the path towards the start of the route. It will dive into the water on research level 2. Psyduck can also be found on the patch of land past the large waterfall, and also swimming in the moonlit cave.

Ursaring
2 Ursaring appears to the left of the path past the first riverbend. Another can be at the rapids opposite the crystabloom. If the Ledian hiding behind the vines near entrance to the moonlit cave are illuminated, an Ursaring will run down a hillside on the right of the path (just past the large waterfall).
★★★★ Research level 2: Magikarp can be seen swimming upstream in the rapids section of the river. If the crystabloom opposite the Ursaring is illuminated, and the scan function used, a Magikarp will jump out of the water and bump into Ursaring on the riverside.

2 Drilbur can be found at the start of the route on the right of the path. Another can be found just past the first riverbend with an Ursaring, and another two above the Ursaring at the rapids. Drilbur also appear in the moonlit cave.
★★★★ Research level 2: After the large waterfall, a sleeping Quagsire can be found to the right of the path. Throwing a fluffruit at it will reveal two Wooper. Throwing Illumina orbs, playing a melody, and scanning will cause Drilbur to pop out of the ground.

Just before the large waterfall, two sleeping Magikarp can be awoken with a melody and by scanning. Illuminating the crystabloom behind the waterfall will cause a Gyarados to appear and climb up the waterfall.
