Pineco (Japanese: クヌギダマ Kunugidama) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves into Forretress starting at level 31.
Biology
Physiology
Pineco is a blue pinecone-like Pokémon with red eyes. It seem to have a single horn on top of its head which is supposedly its stem.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Pineco has the ability to explode, as evidenced by its ability to learn Selfdestruct and Explosion.
Behavior
Pineco likes to make its shell thicker by adding layers of tree bark. To do so, it spits out a fluid, which hardens when it touches air, to glue the tree bark to its body. The additional weight does not bother it.
Pineco patiently hangs from a tree branch, in wait for flying insect prey to come near. It does not move much on its own, but if Pineco is disturbed when eating by someone shaking the tree, it drops down to the ground and explodes with no warning.
Habitat
Pineco lives in trees.

Trivia
- Pineco was the only pure Template:Type2 introduced in Generation II.
- Pineco and Forretress share the same species name with Burmy and Wormadam. They are all known as the Bagworm Pokémon.
- Oddly, Pineco can learn Swift by breeding in Generation III, but it can't learn it via move tutor. This also happened to its evolution Forretress.
- In Platinum, it is able to learn Bug Bite despite not having a visible mouth. This is also true with its evolution Forretress.
- Pineco's and it's evolution Forretress tendency to explode mirrors Voltorb and Electrode.
Origin
Pineco is based on a bagworm living in a pine cone. Its metallic appearance and ability to explode also links to a hand grenade.
Name origin
Pineco's name is an abbreviation of pine cone, reflecting its pine cone-like appearance.
Its Japanese name may be a combination of クヌギ kunugi, sawtooth oak and 玉 tama, ball.
In other languages
- German: Tannza - From Tannenzapfen (fir cone).
- French: Pomdepic - From pomme de pin (cone) and piquer (to prick).
- Korean: 피콘 Pikon
- Chinese: 榛果球
