The (Japanese: サクラギ研究所 Sakuragi Institute) is an anime-exclusive Pokémon research laboratory located in Vermilion City in the Kanto region. It is directed by Professor Sakuragi, who works there with his research assistants Kikuna and Renji. It also serves as Ash and Go's base of operations during the new series.
Located in the vicinity is a domed area known as (Japanese: サクラギパーク Sakuragi Park). Ash and Go keep their caught Pokémon there when they are not on a research mission.
The Sakuragi Institute was officially opened as a Pokémon research facility in SS002. However the building itself is significantly older and was abandoned for a time as revealed in SS016. Three years prior, a Gengar, which was later caught by Ash, haunted the facility after it was abandoned by its former Trainer. Professor Sakuragi was well aware of the haunting rumors when he purchased the building, but was unfazed by the odd phenomena which soon subsided once the Gengar gave up trying to scare him. The hauntings resumed in SS011 and again in SS016, likely because of new arrivals like Ash and Go taking residence.
