Not to be confused with ??????????.

? is a glitch Pokémon which is actually 25 different species, all identical. They are blank filler data in between Celebi and Treecko, index numbers 252-276. They also have identical base stats to another Pokémon, Deoxys.

?'s cry is identical to that of Unown. Its only move is Tackle and it is incapable of learning any others. It has no Ability, displayed with the name ------- and the description "No special ability" on the status screen.

Its Pokédex entry points to garbage data. It has a unique[citation needed] footprint, a generic paw-print with a question mark inside.

?'s sprite was originally coded to represent an unseen Pokémon in the Pokédex, as seen in pre-release screenshots of Ruby and Sapphire. However, developers later changed the "unseen Pokémon" sprite to that of ??????????.

? is a very stable glitch and does not cause any undesired effects on its own. However, attempting to cheat moves onto it will cause save data to corrupt and be deleted[citation needed].

? can be migrated to the Japanese versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl via Pal Park, where it will become the species that corresponds to its index number (Treecko through Taillow). Attempting to select ? in the Western or Korean versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl or in Pokémon Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver will cause the game to display the message "This Pokémon is not permitted to migrate."
