Gets the Pokémon pumped up. Helps prevent nervousness, too.

Shift Gear (Japanese: ギアチェンジ Gear Change) is a non-damaging Steel-type move introduced in Generation V. Prior to Generation VII, it was one of the signature moves of Klink's evolutionary line.

Effect

Shift Gear increases the user's Speed by two stages and the user's Attack by one stage.

Shift Gear can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing Gear Grind to give an extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.

If powered up by a Steelium Z into Z-Shift Gear, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Shift Gear cannot be selected in a battle.

  • Despite being described as a move where "the user rotates its gears", Amped Form Toxtricity and Cyclizar can learn this move naturally despite having no visible gears on its body.
