Trivia
- Salamence is the only Template:Type2 Pokémon to have Intimidate as its ability.
- Salamence has the second highest base stat average of all non-legendary Pokémon, the first being Slaking. However, it is tied with the four other powerhouse evolutions. Salamence is also tied with many other legendaries for base stat average, including Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, Latios and Latias.
- Because of its very superior stats, Salamence is a widely used Pokémon in competitive battling. Its stats are fairly similar to Dragonite's, with Dragonite having lower Speed but higher defensive stats.
- Salamence shares the same species name with Horsea, Dratini, and their evolutions. They are all known as Dragon Pokémon.
- Salamence is one of the only four Pokémon that can learn a HM move by leveling up in the same generation as it is a HM.
- Salamance is one of the rare cases of stat dropping by evolution-from Shelgon's 100 base defense to only 80.
Origin
Salamence appears to be based on European dragons. It also resembles Devilman with his peculiar wings.
Name origin
Its name may be a combination of salamander and menace. Its Japanese name is based on 暴行 bōkō, assault, outrage, or violent act, and salamander.
