Flash Fire (Japanese: もらいび Received Fire) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In battle

Generation III

Flash Fire makes the Pokémon immune to Fire-type moves and will activate when hit by one. When activated, the power of the Pokémon's Fire-type moves is increased by 50%. While subsequent hits by Fire-type moves will not provide further increases in power, the Pokémon remains immune to the moves.

Flash Fire will not activate if the Pokémon is protected from the Fire-type move.

Flash Fire will not work while the user is frozen.

Generation IV

Instead of boosting Fire-type moves' power, Flash Fire now technically boosts the Pokémon's Attack or Special Attack by 50% during damage calculation if a Fire-type move is being used, resulting in effectively the same effect.

Flash Fire can be activated by Will-O-Wisp.

Generation V onwards

Flash Fire is now functional even if the user is frozen.

Outside of battle

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, if a Pokémon with Flash Fire is in the first place in the party (even if fainted), then there is a 50% chance the game will force an encounter with a Fire-type Pokémon, if one is possible.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Flash Fire will neutralize Fire-type moves and increase user's Flash Fire value by 1 for the rest of floor; this effect can be stacked twice. If the user performs a Fire-type move, their Special Attack is temporarily increased by that amount of stages (but cannot increase past +10).
