Kai Midorikawa (緑川 開), nicknamed Green, is a character from the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga, and is based on Blue from the original games. He is Red's rival and takes Pokémon much more seriously, although has questionable ethics in attaining his goals. His surname contains the Japanese word for "green" (緑 midori).

Kai obtained Charizard when it was a Charmander. He favored this Pokémon. When it evolved in The Legendary Pokémon Appears!!, it went straight to the final stage instead of becoming Charmeleon*.

Meowth first appeared in a performance on stage when Kai participated. It evolved into a Persian and back into a Meowth.
Meowth's known moves are Pay Day and Fury Swipes.
Blastoise first appeared in a baseball tournament competing against Isamu. Then in Part-Time Job At The Swimming Pool!!, he used it for a swimming competition.
Machamp was one of the Pokémon in the baseball tournament.

Trivia
- The rules of evolution seem to be very different in Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga. When Kai's Charmander first evolved into Charizard temporarily, it omitted the Charmeleon form. Later, it evolved off-screen permanently and it's unknown if he ever was a Charmeleon. It is possible that he was able to omit the Charmeleon form again.
