Trivia
- Umbreon is tied with Vaporeon and Leafeon for the tallest Eevee evolution.
- Although it is often mentioned that it is able to spray poison, Umbreon cannot actually learn Template:Type2 moves by leveling up.
- In fact, the only Poison-type move Umbreon can learn is Toxic, which nearly every Pokémon can learn through TM06.
- Umbreon was the first and only pure Template:Type2 until the introduction of Poochyena, Mightyena, and Absol in Generation III.
- Umbreon is the first Template:Type2 Pokémon in National Pokédex order, and the last Pokémon in National Pokédex order to not share a type with a Pokémon of a lower number.
- Umbreon portrays the closest stat resemblance to Cresselia, having very high Defense, Special Defense, and HP stats, with average Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. Coincidentally, they are both related to the moon.
- Umbreon is the only Dark-type and only non-Template:Type2 Pokémon with the ability Synchronize.
- Umbreon is one of two Pokémon than can be obtained via more than one evolution method. The other one is Umbreon's counterpart, Espeon.
Origin
Its physical traits are similar to foxes.
Name origin
Umbreon's name is derived from umbra, Latin for shadow and ghost. Eon was Eevee's prototype name, the Pokémon from which Umbreon evolves.
Its Japanese name may simply refer to the color of its coat. Its French name, Noctali, is derived from nocturne, which refers to being active at night.
In other languages
- German: Nachtara - From Nacht (night), same ending as all of Evoli's forms in German.
- French: Noctali
- Korean: 블래키 Beullaeki
