Breloom (Japanese: キノガッサ Kinogassa) is a dual-type Grass/Fighting Pokémon.
It evolves from Shroomish starting at level 23.
Biology
Physiology
In sharp contrast to the diminutive Shroomish, Breloom sports an agile shape, similar to a kangaroo or a theropod. It has a mushroom-like green "cap" on its head with visible gills and a round, somewhat berry-like or oak gall-like portion on one side. Breloom’s head, neck, and tail are tan in coloration. Breloom’s mouth is somewhat beak-like in shape, and there is a petal-like arrangement of extensions from its shoulders. Breloom’s chest and lower body is green, and its feet have two red claws. Breloom has seed clusters made of hardened toxic spores on the end of its tail, which it uses to slam into its foe. Its arms appear to be short and of little use, but they can stretch surprisingly far to deliver punches. Its red foreclaws are ideal for slicing.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Like Shroomish, Breloom can store up spores that causes several status ailments, and especially notable among these are the toxic spores on its tail, which are horrible to eat. They are also physically very strong, much like most Template:Type2s, and extremely fast. Some of its unique moves depends on these two factors; one being able to hit high opponents, and the other to make sure it strikes first.
Behavior
Breloom come in groups along with other Shroomish and partake in tasks for their survival like foraging for food and defending their kind from enemies and predators. Once threatened, Breloom will not hesitate to fight and will not cease until their enemies have been warded off or beaten. Breloom are formidable combatants in battle and will take on almost any Pokémon who poses as a threat to their kind, especially their young. Breloom’s fighting technique consists of closing in on its foe with light and sprightly footwork before punching with its stretchy arms. Breloom also scatters spores from holes in the mushroom cap on its head.
Habitat
Breloom prefers warm and humid climates.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Breloom feeds on trees and plants in fields and forests. Breloom can also occasionally be found with the Kebia Berry.
In the anime
Major appearances
The first major role Breloom had was in A Shroomish Skirmish. Ash and friends were being attacked by Breloom that had evolved from Shroomish that were mad at them for stealing their food. May's newly evolved Combusken defeated the Breloom in a vicious hand to hand fight and saved the day.
Kenny has a Breloom that appeared in Journey to the Unown! and Team Shocker!.
Minor appearances
Breloom's first appearance was a cameo in the first Advanced Generation series movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker. The Mushroom Pokémon was one of the residents of Forina, Jirachi's home.
Breloom had another cameo in Numero Uno Articuno as a Pokémon belonging to Noland.
A Breloom appeared in Pasta la Vista, under the ownership of the Fighting Dojo.
A Breloom was battled by Ash and Pikachu during the tournament in Lucrio and the Mystery of Mew.

Trivia
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Breloom.
- Breloom has the highest Attack out of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Breloom is tied with Machamp for having the highest Attack stat out of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Despite being called the Mushroom Pokémon, and some Pokédex entries mentioning its spores, Breloom does not learn Spore via level-up. However, it can have the ability Effect Spore.
- Its pre-evolution Shroomish does, however.
- In Generation III, Breloom did not learn any Template:Type2 moves by level up after evolving.
- Breloom's petal-like appendages adorning its neck, as depicted in its sprite, are noticeably longer in Generation III. Breloom also seems to have smaller 'hands' in Generation III as well.
- Breloom can learn False Swipe through breeding, but not by TM.
Origin
Breloom is based on a mushroom. However its body structure resembles that of a kangaroo. Also, the shapes of its head and tail resembles that of two armored dinosaurs, Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus respecively.
Name origin
Breloom's name may be a combination of umbrella and mushroom or bloom. In Latin, "bellum" means "war," perhaps a nod to its Fighting type.
Kinogassa is likely a combination of 茸 kinoko, mushrooms, and 傘 kasa, umbrella.
In other languages
- German: Kapilz
- French: Chapignon - From chapeau (hat) and champignon (mushroom).
- Korean: 버섯모 Beoseotmo
- Chinese (Taiwan): 斗笠菇 Dǒu Lì Gū - "Bamboo-hatted mushroom". 斗笠 (bamboo hat) may refer to the green "cap" on its head, which resembles the former.
