Snorlax (Japanese: カビゴン Kabigon) is a Normal-type Pokémon. In the Generation I and II games, as well as Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, wild Snorlax can be found sleeping in inconvenient locations throughout Kanto. In order to catch one, a trainer must first awaken it with music from either a Poké Flute or PokéGear.

Snorlax comes with one of two Abilities: Immunity, which protects the Pokémon from being poisoned; or Thick Fat, which cuts damage from Fire- and Ice-type moves in half.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Red and Blue
Very lazy. Just sleeps and eats. As its rotund bulk builds, it becomes steadily more slothful.
Pokémon Yellow
Will eat anything, even if the food happens to be moldy. It never gets an upset stomache.
Pokémon Stadium
A lazy Pokémon continually fatter by sticking to a cycle of sleeping and eating. Awake only when it eats.
Pokémon Gold
What sounds like its cry may actually be its snores or the rumblings of its hungry belly.
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
Snorlax's typical day consists of nothing more than eating and sleeping. It is such a docile Pokémon that there are children who use its expansive belly as a place to play.
Pokémon Emerald
Snorlax's typical day consists of nothing more than eating and sleeping. It is such a docile Pokémon that there are children who use its big belly as a place to play.
Pokémon FireRed
It is not satisfied unless it eats over 880 pounds of food every day. When it is done eating, it goes promptly to sleep.
Pokémon LeafGreen
Very lazy. Just eats and sleeps. As its rotund bulk builds, it becomes steadily more slothful.

Name origin

Snorlax's name is a combination of snore and lax. The German name is merely relax with an "o" at the end.

It may be loosely based on hibernating bears.
