Lucario (Japanese: ルカリオ Lucario) is a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon.

Special abilities

Lucario are sensitive to a special type of energy called Aura (Hadou 波導 or literally Wave Guidance). Every object in the world exhibits waves of aura, in a concept similar to Ki or Chakra. Lucario can study these waves to predict the movements of their opponents, and use them to track anyone. Lucario can also guide the waves offensively to create explosive balls of Aura energy (as shown in the attack Aura Sphere). Lucario can also understand human speech, and is able to speak it (like some other Pokémon such as Manaphy and Team Rocket's Meowth).

Behavior

Habitat

Lucario usually live deep in mountains far from people to improve their skills.

Trivia

Origin

Lucario appears to be based on the Egyptian god Anubis, who has the head of a jackal. It also seems to be based on an Egyptian boxer. Boxing is a sport that is believed to have origins in Egypt. The black appendages on the back of its head are used to detect the auras of creatures and objects around it. While Lucario reads aura, it closes its eyes, and thus the appendages and the way they look "tied" around its face appear to be based on someone being blindfolded.

Name origin

Lucario's name may be a corrupted, backward version of oracle. It may also be a reference to Cairo, Egypt.
