Walkthrough:Pokémon Sword and Shield/Part 24

Energy Plant

Speak to Sonia at the elevator doors in Hammerlocke Stadium, and her Yamper will handily give them the jolt of electricity needed to open. Head down to the Energy Plant and you’ll be confronted by either Sordward or Shielbert. They’ll then reveal their plan to you - they were testing the ability to Dynamax Pokémon against their will in all the Stadiums, and plan to do the same to Zacian and Zamazenta to prove that they were unworthy and incapable of saving Galar, thus proving that the brothers were in fact descended from royalty. You can try to put a stop to this, of course, by defeating them in battle.

Neither brother carries a full team of six Pokémon, and Sordward hasn’t even evolved his Doublade yet, but with each Pokémon at level 64 this can be a tricky battle if you’re not prepared. Both lead with Sirfetch’d, which can give you valuable setup time as Meteor Assault has a recharge turn afterwards. Sordward has better type diversity than Shielbert - a strong Fire-type deals well with the Steel-type Pokémon on both teams, however, and only really has to worry about Liquidation from Golisopod, but if you can play around it then you should be good to go.

After your victory a familiar howling echoes from the summit, and it seems the precious battle might have given the brothers enough time to enact their nefarious scheme. Heal your party as required before going up.

On the roof you’ll find the other brother standing before Zacian (Shield) or Zamazenta (Sword), having used the appropriate artifact to lure them there before bombarding them with Galar particles. In this wild, out of control state, only one person is strong enough to stop it, and that’s you! You can’t capture them in this battle, so just knock them out instead - remember that in the Hero of Many Battles form they’re not part Steel-type, and also not as powerful, and it should be smooth sailing.

After your win Zacian/Zamazenta charges towards Hop, only for the other Legendary Pokémon to appear in the nick of time to stop them! The previously enraged Pokémon then flees, and Hop takes the Rusted Sword or Rusted Shield back to its rightful place in hopes of calming it down. You then have a stare down with our newly-arrived Pokémon, before it settles itself in the middle of the arena, waiting for you to take it on!

Make sure to save your game if you want to catch it in a specific ball, because this catch, unlike Eternatus, is not guaranteed, and this is your only chance. It’ll be at level 70, and in its more powerful Crowned Sword (Zacian) or Crowned Shield (Zamazenta) form, so it can very easily sweep your team if you’re unprepared. You do, of course, have the Master Ball at this point, and now would be an opportune time to use it.

With Zacian/Zamazenta now captured, Sordward and Shielbert recognise your strength and the error of their ways, and ask Piers to hand them over to the authorities (but not before Piers hands over his rare League Card). As they leave your Rotom Phone rings - it’s Hop calling, and he wants you to go to the Slumbering Weald to help with the other Legendary Pokémon. If that wasn’t persuasive enough, your own Legend howls in agreement, so head back to the heart of the forest.

Slumbering Weald

Once you arrive at the Slumbering Weald you can find Sonia at the entrance, and she will take you straight to the altar in the center of the woods. There you’ll find Hop trying to calm down Zacian/Zamazenta. Somehow, not only has Hop succeeded, but he’s convinced the Pokémon enough to let him catch it (in a Poké Ball, no less)! Of course, now that he’s got a legend of his own, there’s only one thing left to do… That’s right, it’s a final battle!

Pokémon Sword

Pokémon Shield

Hop’s team is much the same as it was the last time you fought him, with two key differences. The first is that his party is roughly ten levels higher, so he might well outlevel you at this point, possibly the first time all game. The second is that his Cramorant has had to make way for either Zacian or Zamazenta, undoubtedly now the toughest Pokémon on his team. He still leads off with his trusty Dubwool, which for all its charm does not hit particularly hard. You can use this to your advantage by boosting your stats against it, either with a setup move such as Bulk Up or Dragon Dance, or with the use of X items (or both), and sweeping through his team once you're ready. He always saves his Legend for last, so keep that in mind, and take him out one final time.

The battle helps Hop come to a realization - rather than try to become Champion, he wants to help people and Pokémon in need by becoming a Professor. The two of you exchange a handshake, acknowledging that you’ll still always be rivals, before Sonia offers Hop the opportunity to become her assistant, which he gladly accepts. Hop hands you his rare League Card as Leon, Piers, Sordward, and Shielbert arrive on the scene. The brothers apologize for their misdeeds, before scampering off to continue on their apology tour. Leon offers his younger words of pride and encouragement, leaving Hop very unusually lost for words, before everyone leaves the altar, your main adventure now at end. There is, however, still more to uncover, including the brand new Battle Tower in Wyndon, where we’ll go next.
