Walkthrough:Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Part 18

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
These pages follow the original Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The guide for those games can be found here.

Oreburgh City/Hearthome City

Preparing for the Peak

The path to the peak of Mt. Coronet is a grueling one, so be sure to prepare well.

  • Navigation. To fully navigate the mountain, the field moves Surf, Strength, and Rock Climb are required, while Rock Smash is recommended.
  • Wildlife. The levels of wild Pokémon range from the upper 30s to low 40s. It is recommended that travelers raise their Pokémon to level 45 or higher in order to fend off these wild Pokémon.
  • Medicine. There are no remote Pokémon Centers nearby, so be sure to pack plenty of medicine. Health-restoring items, like Hyper Potions, Moomoo Milk, and Lemonade, will be critical to reach the summit. It is also a good idea to bring a supply of Revives, and status healing items, like Full Heals.
  • Poké Balls. While inside the mountain or during nighttime hours, Dusk Balls are most effective. Ultra Balls are a less situational alternative, while Quick Balls, Timer Balls, and Net Balls have their uses as well.

When ready, Fly to Oreburgh City and go northeast, or Hearthome City and go west, to return to Mt. Coronet.

Approaching PalkiaP

On this latest visit to Mt. Coronet, Cyrus is about to put his endgame into motion. Chase him to the mountaintop to put a stop to Team Galactic's plans once and for all!

1F (South)

Surf eastward across the northern pool of water. Use Rock Climb to scale the wall and climb up the stairs in the northeast corner.

2F (South)

Go northwest and collect the Max Potion from the hill to the north. Turn the corner to the west and proceed to the southern wall to reach an Escape Rope. Head north and climb up the nearest stairway to find two diverging paths, one leading west and one leading north.

Take the western path first, and pass through the exit to reach the uppermost level of Route 207. Use Rock Climb to reach the cliff below and collect the Iron. Climb back up the cliffside and re-enter the cave.

Go north from the stairway and cross over the western bridge. Walk down the next stairway, then detour to the south to reach TM80 (Rock Slide). Turn north and pass under the bridge this time, then collect the Revive to the northwest. Cross over the larger eastern bridge, then double-back and pass underneath it to reach the doorway in the northwest.

2F (Northwest)

Go northeast and climb up the stairs.

3F

Move north and battle the first Galactic Grunt. Follow the tunnel southwestward to battle a second Grunt and pass through the next doorway.

Mountainside (South)

The upper part of the mountain stands high in the sky, and is constantly covered in snow. All battles that take place here will be affected by hail.

Go northeast and use Rock Climb to scale the next cliff. Turn west and pass through the large grass patch, or use Strength to move the boulder and bypass it, and enter the western doorway.

4F (1)

Head north and use Rock Climb to scale the cliff. Continue northward and battle the next Grunt. Turn east and battle the second Grunt here. Walk down the stairway and go east to return to the mountainside.

Mountainside (North)

Head to the northeast and walk down the stairway. Go north and enter the nearby doorway.

Tunnel

Defeat the nearby Grunt, then use Rock Climb to descend. Follow the eastern wall northward and fight the next two Grunts. Go west, then south and walk down the two stairways. Head south and use Rock Climb. The Grunt to the north is hopelessly lost, and blocks a shortcut to the tunnel linking Eterna City and Celestic Town. Go south and use Rock Smash to pass through the rocky debris. Use Rock Climb once in the southwest, then again to return to the mountainside.

Mountainside (North)

Move north and use Rock Climb to scale the cliff to the west. Continue westward through the tall grass, or use Strength to move the boulder and bypass it. Step through the cave entrance in the northwest.

4F (3)

This part of the mountain is only a tunnel. Climb up the stairs to the east to proceed.

5F

Turn south and climb up the first stairway to battle another Grunt. Climb the second stairway to battle a second Grunt on the upper level, then climb the western stairs.

6F

Turn north and battle one last Grunt on the middle level, then take the exit to reach the mountaintop.

Spear Pillar

The Spear Pillar is the name of the archaeological site on the highest peak of Mt. Coronet. These broken marble columns are the ruins of an ancient temple destroyed centuries ago when the masters of time and space last entered our world. Cyrus cannot be allowed to summon the Legendary Pokémon!

A Universe in the Making

When you try to climb up onto the marble platform, you are stopped by a pair of Grunts and drawn into a Multi Battle.

Press onward, and you will soon find Jupiter, Mars, and Cyrus, making their final preparations in order to remake the world. When you approach, Cyrus declares that it is time for all to end and everything to begin. He plans to use the Red Chain to pry open a portal to another dimension, and use the power of Dialga, the master of timeD / Palkia, the master of spaceP, for himself! A glowing portal appears to the north, and the Legendary Pokémon emerges. As its power begins to affect all of Sinnoh, Cyrus declares that this is how he will bring on the destruction of all things, in order to eliminate all fighting and strife. He believes that the current world cannot be molded into the one he desires, and that it is far easier to create a new one instead, a world where he rules over all!

Move northward to confront Jupiter and Mars. They know that you're in a hurry to stop Cyrus, but each has their own score to settle with you. Just as it seems that they will gang up on you with a two-on-one battle, Barry appears and rushes to your aid! He and his six Pokémon join you in a Multi Battle against the two Commanders.

VS Mars & Jupiter

Despite having just defeated two of his Commanders, Jupiter says that you are still no match for Cyrus. Barry tells you that his Pokémon are unable to continue, and heals your Pokémon to full health for your battle with Cyrus. He wishes you well, then leaves the ruins.

Just then, the daylight dims and a spinning field of stars appears beneath the Legendary Pokémon. Cyrus is pleased to see his new universe in the making, until something goes wrong. Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf suddenly appear and surround the Legendary Pokémon. Their powers have negated the effects of the Red Chain, breaking Cyrus' control and thwarting his plan. With the threat eliminated, the lake guardians disappear as soon as they arrive, but Mesprit pauses in front of you for a moment before following the others. Cyrus cannot understand why the Red Chain failed, or why Mesprit appeared before you. He promises to capture the lake guardians again, but intends to crush you first!

VS Cyrus

Though the battle is over, Cyrus refuses to give up and still vows to become a deity one day. But with their endgame thwarted, Cyrus, Jupiter, Mars, and the rest of Team Galactic flee the area in an instant and go into hiding as they work to regroup.

Professor Rowan and Dawn/Lucas arrive a moment later. The professor marvels at the Legendary Pokémon standing before you all, and cannot be sure if it is enraged or saddened. He says that it appears to be waiting for you, and encourages you to face it. Rowan explains that the Pokémon is out of control after being forced by the Red Chain to use its power, but seems to be entrusting you to stop it. Dawn/Lucas mentions that she/he ran into Barry a short time ago, and how he said that he is sure that you can get the job done. She/He feels the same way, and pleads with you to relieve the Pokémon of its suffering.

VS The Legendary Pokémon

If run from, the Legendary Pokémon respawns upon leaving the area. If defeated, it respawns upon entering the Hall of Fame.

DialgaD

Dialga, the master of time, is a Steel/Dragon Pokémon. Metal Claw deals damage and may raise its physical Attack, allowing it and Dragon Claw to hit even harder. AncientPower has the potential to raise every one of its stats. Roar of Time is Dialga's signature move; immensely powerful, but forces the user to recharge on the next turn. Use the Master Ball if you wish; otherwise, prepare for a lengthy battle. Begin with Fighting- and Ground-type attacks to wear its health down quickly before moving to weaker moves to chip away at it even further. Due to Dialga's part-Steel typing, it is immune to Poison-type moves and has many resistances, so consider lulling it to sleep or inflicting paralysis to restrict its movements. When its HP is nearly depleted, attempt capture with Dusk BallsNight or Ultra Balls for best results.

PalkiaP

Palkia, the master of space, is a Water/Dragon Pokémon. Water Pulse deals damage and may confuse the target. AncientPower has the potential to raise every one of its stats. Spacial Rend is Palkia's signature move, a powerful attack with an increased critical hit ratio. Use the Master Ball if you wish; otherwise, prepare for a lengthy battle. Begin with Dragon-type attacks to wear its health down quickly before moving to weaker moves to chip away at it even further. Consider lulling it to sleep or inflicting paralysis to restrict its movements. When its HP is nearly depleted, attempt capture with Dusk BallsNight, Net Balls, or Ultra Balls for best results.

When the battle is over, Professor Rowan and Dawn/Lucas arrive. Rowan is amazed at your success, saying that in his sixty years he has never been this thrilled. Dawn/Lucas informs you that the professor has done a lot of research since your last meeting and became very concerned about you, leading him to visit this treacherous place. She/He is glad to see you safe, and leads you toward the exit. Alone in the ruins, Rowan declares that no one has the right to take away anyone else's future or anyone else's world.

Afterward, you find yourself standing with Professor Rowan and Dawn/Lucas near the exit from Mt. Coronet. Before leaving, however, be sure to visit the north side of the ruins and collect the legendary artifact there. When held by Dialga, the Adamant OrbD boosts the power of its Steel- and Dragon-type attacks by 20%. When held by Palkia, the Lustrous OrbP boosts the power of its Water- and Dragon-type attacks by 20%.

When you are ready to leave, venture back inside Mt. Coronet. Using an Escape Rope now will immediately return you to the foot of the mountain. Otherwise, you will need to backtrack through 6F, 5F, and 4F (3) again. On the Mountainside, enter the cave opening near the northeast stairway, then take the Tunnel's north exit. Back in 1F (North), pick up TM02 (Dragon Claw) nearby as you follow the narrow tunnel northward. Use Strength to move the boulder, then exit through the east to Celestic Town.

Celestic Town

The Missing Page

With the events at Spear Pillar concluded, data for DialgaD/PalkiaP has now been recorded in your Pokédex. However, it is impossible to encounter the opposite Pokémon, leaving a missing page in the device. To rectify this, return to Celestic Town and visit the large home on the north side. Speak to Cynthia's grandmother to learn that she has done more research since the incident at the local ruins. She has discovered an old book in the shrine, and points out a page that displays an image of PalkiaP/DialgaD. Viewing this image is critical for completing the Pokédex.
