Route 218

Route 218 leads west from Jubilife City to Canalave City. Despite the short distance, this path is revered by Fishermen as a great, though little known, fishing spot.

Pokédex Update
When you enter the western gate at the Canalave City limits, you are greeted by Dawn/Lucas's father. Professor Rowan has directed him to wait here for you, with the intention of updating your Pokédex. Once this process is complete, the device will now be able to display the gender differences of a given species. He then asks if you would keep an eye on Team Galactic, as Rowan is concerned about what happened in Jubilife City. He then leaves to the east.
Canalave City

Located to the west of Route 218, Canalave City is a port city that features a large canal. Formerly a hub for cargo transport, the ferry moored in this canal now transports people to and from a series of small islands off of the mainland's west coast. The Canalave Library houses many books that detail the myths of Sinnoh, and the Canalave Gym is the sixth challenge in the Sinnoh League.

Move Deleter's house
The northeastern house, in front of the Pokémon Center, belongs to an elderly man known as the Move Deleter. Using his free service allows a Pokémon to forget one of its moves. This is especially useful for removing moves taught by HM, as they would normally be permanent.
Harbor Inn
The Harbor Inn is located in the northeast part of the city, behind the Pokémon Center. It was a thriving business once, until it mysteriously closed down 50 years ago. The front door has been locked tight ever since.
Rival Battle 4
When you attempt to pass over the drawbridge, you are quickly approached from the west by Barry. He asks if you intend to challenge the Gym Leader, and says that someone should check that you're up to the task as he flashes his latest Gym Badge.

Afterward, Barry admits his defeat but promises to become Champion one day. He then leaves to the west.
Sailor Eldritch's house
The southwestern house belongs to a Sailor named Eldritch and his family. His wife and young son can be found inside, while he works at the nearby docks. Eldritch operates the ferry that runs between Canalave City and several small islands to the north, including Iron Island. This island may be visited at any point, though it can be a useful training ground before challenging the Canalave Gym. There are no Pokémon Centers on the remote island, so be sure to bring some healing items along. There is a gift Pokémon available there as well, so be sure to bring no more than five Pokémon in your party.
Iron Island

Iron Island is a small island located off the west coast of Sinnoh. It houses a cave that was once a prosperous mine, but was shut down once the reserves dried up. Since then, it has been preserved as a habitat for wild Pokémon. Members of the Canalave Gym often visit the island to train their Pokémon.

Exterior
The ferry docks on the southwest part of the island. Climb up the two stairways to enter the abandoned mine.
1F
The first chamber features two stairways leading downward. Take the stairs on the left to reach the western part of the next floor.
B1F (West)
Move south to battle Camper Lawrence and reach the Iron Ball, then return to 1F and take the eastern stairs.
B1F (East)
Go southward first to reach an Escape Rope. Climb onto the upper level and move eastward to reach a Super Repel near the east wall. Go down the stairway in the northeast corner, battle past Picknicker Summer, and ride the lift down to the lower level. Take the eastern stairs next.
B2F (East)
Move eastward past Worker Willy to reach a Max Ether. Backtrack and head southward past Worker Braden to find TM23 (Iron Tail). Go back to the stairs in the northwest corner, then return to B1F and take the western stairs.
B2F (West)
It's Dangerous to Go Alone
A short distance away from the northeast stairs, you meet a man named Riley. He has been training his Pokémon here in the abandoned mine, and warns you that the wild Pokémon here are restless. The two of you team up, and Riley promises to keep your Pokémon in perfect health. Like with Cheryl and Mira, Riley and his Lucario will assist in each battle, turning all wild battles into Double Battles, and all Trainer battles that may otherwise be Double Battles into Multi Battles.
Move westward to battle Hikers Damon and Maurice, then pick up the Ultra Ball in the northwest corner. Go south to battle Workers Brendon and Quentin, then climb the stairway to the northwest of them to find a Max Potion. Continue southward from these two Workers and pass over a series of three stairways to reach a HP Up near a group of small rocks. Move north past the two Workers and take the next tunnel headed eastward; this leads to a stairway in the southeast and a Magnet near Black Belt Kendal and Battle Girl Tyler. Move south and west to battle Ace Trainers Jonah and Brenda, then continue southward.
At the top of the lift, you and Riley encounter a pair of Galactic Grunts. Riley accuses them of causing the restlessness of the wild Pokémon, and the Grunts declare that they will take as many Pokémon as they want from the island. Riley refuses to let them get away with this, so the two of you draw the Grunts into battle.
Afterward, the Grunts quickly flee the cave, and Riley thanks you for your help. He then reveals that he has a Pokémon Egg with him, and asks if you would take it with you. Accept, and Riley says that he hopes you show the Pokémon inside all sorts of new places. He goes on to say that he will be training in other locations now, and hopes to meet you again. Ride the lift down to the lower level and step through the doorway to the west.
B3F (West)
Ride the lift to the upper level, collect the Shiny Stone to the east, and step through the exit to the west. This leads to a shortcut back to the ferry.
Canalave City
Canalave Gym

| Canalave City Pokémon Gym Leader: Byron The Man with the Steel Body! | |
The Canalave Gym specializes in Steel-type Pokémon. Steel-type moves are super effective against Ice- and Rock-type Pokémon, while Steel-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting-, Fire-, and Ground-type moves.
The Gym features four stories of disconnected steel floors, with lifts and moving platforms to carry challengers between them. On 1F, battle Black Belt Ricky to reach four yellow lifts. Take the easternmost lift near Worker Gary. On 2F, go southeast and ride the next lift down. Back on 1F, battle Ace Trainer Cesar, then ride the western lift up. Back on 2F, ride the moving platform westward to the next lift. On 3F, ride the next moving platform northward and battle Worker Gerardo. Ride eastward across two more platforms and battle Black Belt David. Move south and pass over two more platforms to reach the lift near the east wall. Back on 2F, battle past Ace Trainer Breanna and take the next lift. Back on 1F, go west and step on the red lift to reach the Gym Leader's position.
VS Byron
Byron leads with his Bronzor, a Steel/Psychic Pokémon. Flash Cannon may lower the target's Special Defense, allowing Extrasensory to deal increased damage. Despite being a Steel-type Pokémon, Ground-type attacks used against it are useless due to its Levitate Ability. His Steelix makes up for its low Speed with Gyro Ball, which deals variable damage based on how much slower the user is than the target. It can also fight back with Ice Fang against Ground Pokémon that would otherwise have an advantage. Finally, his Bastiodon enjoys high physical Defense and Special Defense, and AncientPower may raise all its stats at once. Consider using status ailments like Burn or Poison to help wear it down.

After the battle, Byron awards you the Mine Badge, which enables the use of Strength in the field. Having six Badges also ensures the obedience of all Pokémon up to level 70. He also gives you TM91 (Flash Cannon) as a prize. Rather than backtrack through the Gym, follow the moving platforms in a clockwise direction around 3F to reach a red lift that leads directly back to 1F.
When you leave the Gym, you find Barry waiting for you. He is excited to see your new Mine Badge, and tells you to meet him at the library in the northwest part of town.

Finding the Mirage Pokémon
Barry can be found on the library's third floor. He greets you, then leads you to a table where Professor Rowan and Dawn/Lucas are waiting. Rowan reminds the three Trainers that he studies Pokémon Evolution, and how some Pokémon evolve while others do not. He goes on to mention the three lakes of Sinnoh, where beings that he calls mirage Pokémon are said to live. He believes that finding them may help his studies, so he directs the three of you to each investigate one of the lakes. He sends Dawn/Lucas to Lake Verity in the southwest and Barry to Lake Acuity in the north, leaving you to visit Lake Valor in the southeast.
Just then, a massive earthquake shakes the city! Rowan and the others hurry outside to find out what's happened. Rowan quickly realizes that it was not a natural occurence, while a Sailor runs past a moment later, shouting about an explosion at Lake Valor. Barry rushes off to begin his assignment while Rowan encourages you to find the cause of the explosion, noting that he and Dawn/Lucas will join you after visiting Lake Verity. Use Fly to travel southward from Veilstone City, or eastward from Pastoria City, and return to Valor Lakefront.
