Route 212 leads northwest from Pastoria City back to Hearthome City. The path weaves around the deep puddles left by the relentless rainfall. A large estate known as the Pokémon Mansion is located just south of Hearthome, and occupies nearly half of the route.

Shard Collector's house

The house on the riverbank belongs to a blonde woman, a former employee of the Weather Institute in the far-off Hoenn region. According to her sister, the woman collects Shards because they remind her of where she used to work. In exchange for 10 Shards of the same color, she offers a Technical Machine containing a weather-changing move. Each TM may be obtained repeatedly.

Pokémon Mansion

The Pokémon Mansion is a large residence owned by Mr. Backlot, the same man who owns Amity Square in Hearthome City. His famous Trophy Garden is located behind the building.

Trophy Garden

The Trophy Garden is Mr. Backlot's pride and joy. As he explains, wild Pokémon are attracted to the garden, eliminating the need to travel afar to find them. It is notably the only place to find Pichu and Pikachu in the wild.

After a certain point, Mr. Backlot's butler will begin adding certain Pokémon not normally found in Sinnoh to the garden. This is done in an attempt to cover for Backlot's claims of encountering the unfamiliar Pokémon while on a walk, which would be impossible. A different imported Pokémon appears after 24 hours have passed.

Hearthome City

On the second visit to Hearthome City, the Gym Leader is nowhere to be found, so it seems that challenging the Hearthome Gym will need to wait a bit longer. With Cynthia's SecretPotion in hand, use Fly, or pass through Route 209 again, to return to Solaceon Town and continue north to Route 210.

Route 210 (North)

Route 210

Route 210 runs north from Solaceon Town, leading to Celestic Town far to the northwest, and Route 215 as the path turns eastward. The path passes between mountains, and was made by clearing an overgrown canyon. The northernmost areas are always covered by fog.

Psyduck and the SecretPotion

On the second visit to Route 210, examine the group of Psyduck to find that they are still not inclined to move. Follow Cynthia's advice and use the SecretPotion to cure the Pokémon of their chronic headache. Now that they're feeling better, the group wanders northward and out of sight.

Cynthia appears a moment later. Though no one knows the cause of Psyduck's chronic headaches, she is happy to see that the SecretPotion has relieved their pain. She goes on to ask a favor: deliver her Old Charm to her grandmother in Celestic Town. As there are rare Pokémon to be found on the way, she points out that it would be worth your while to accept. Do so, and she hands the Old Charm to you. Cynthia describes her grandmother as the bossy elder of Celestic Town, which happens to lie at the northwest end of the route. She then leaves to the south.

The Fog Rolls In

After passing through the long grass patch and reaching the end of the dirt path, you find that the northern part of the route is covered by a layer of dense fog. Though not required to continue, Defog can be used to clear the haze away and improve visibility for the road ahead.

Celestic Ruins^Pt

Celestic Town is a tiny town situated between Route 210 to the east and Route 211 to the west. It is also one of the oldest, where residents preserve the region's history and the old ways of life. The center of town features a shrine that dates back to ancient times, and a cave known as the Celestic Ruins. Despite lacking a modern Poké Mart, an elderly couple runs a shop from their home in the northwest.

Meet the Town Elder

As you approach the southern stairway leading to the shrine, you are stopped by an elderly woman standing nearby, who warns of an odd-looking "spaceman" in front of the ruins. Learning that the cave holds nothing special only seemed to make him angry, and now he threatens to blow up the town with a bomb. In her younger years, she and her Pokémon would have punished the Grunt, but she must now leave that to you.

The Spaceman

Speak to the Grunt, who declares the town "insignificant" as it holds nothing he deems to be of value. He argues that since it doesn't need to exist, he'll just blow it up with a Galactic Bomb, and threatens to defeat you in battle if you interfere. He asks if you still intend to do so; select Yes and the battle begins!

After the battle, the Grunt is happy to leave and flees the town. A moment later, you are approached by the elderly woman from before, who introduces herself as the elder of Celestic Town. She thanks you for chasing the man away, and then notices the Old Charm you carry. She learns that Cynthia asked you to deliver it to her, and accepts the item from you. She explains that these charms were made here long ago in honor of the deity who was believed to have created Sinnoh, and are still discovered from time to time. Since you are here, the woman suggests taking a look around inside the ruins.

Celestic Ruins

An Ancient Artwork

The Celestic Ruins are housed in a small cave in the center of town. A cave painting on the rear wall shows three strange beings arranged in a triangle around a shining sphere. Examine the ancient artwork, and the town elder arrives. She explains the legend behind the painting: there once existed a being so powerful that it was considered a deity. Three Pokémon opposed this being, balancing their power against its own. She goes on to reveal that she has a gift for you, an item that once belonged to her granddaughter: HM03 (Surf). This field move allows travel across bodies of water, but doing so requires the Badge from Hearthome Gym. The elder then exits the cave, leaving you to do the same.

The Mysterious Man Returns

Outside, you find the mysterious man from Mt. Coronet. He is aware of your recent battle here, what he calls an insignificant struggle, and suggests that everyone should view things from a bigger perspective, on a universal scale. The man introduces himself as Cyrus, and explains that he seeks the power to create a new world free of strife. He recognizes you from Mt. Coronet, and asks that you inform him if you find anything behind the legends of Sinnoh. Once he leaves, you are free to move on from the town.

Hearthome City Pokémon Gym Leader: Fantina The Alluring, Soulful Dancer!

The Hearthome Gym specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon. Ghost-type moves are super effective against Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokémon, while Ghost-type Pokémon are weak to Dark- and Ghost-type moves. Normal- and Fighting-type moves have no effect on Ghost-type Pokémon.

The Gym features stone construction and a multitude of wall sconces with candles burning blue to evoke the atmosphere of a haunted castle. Five stories tall, each floor features a simple mathematical puzzle posted on a sign and three doors marked with answers from which to choose. Passing through the door with the correct answer leads to an elevator to the next floor; passing through the wrong door leads to a Trainer to fight. The Gym Leader awaits all challengers on the top floor, in a room adorned with stained glass windows.

VS Fantina

Fantina leads with her Drifblim, a Ghost/Flying Pokémon. Its high HP stat makes it difficult to take down quickly, giving it more time to use Ominous Wind. Though only a slight chance, the move may boost each of Drifblim's stats by one stage each. Her Gengar can harass its target by inducing confusion and draining its Power Points. Despite being part-Poison type, it is unafraid of Ground-type moves due to its Levitate Ability. Mismagius's strongest move is Shadow Ball, as it may lower the target's Special Defense, giving Mismagius a chance to deal increased damage. Magical Leaf is guaranteed to hit its target; useful on its own, but especially dangerous after Shadow Ball's stat drop.

Go West, Young Trainer

Upon exiting the Gym, you are approached by Cynthia. She heard from her grandmother about the events in Celestic Town, and thanks you for what you did at the ruins. She had thought of Team Galactic as an eccentric, though harmless, bunch for their uniforms and their talk of remaking the universe, but now considers them dangerous for their plans to steal and hoard Pokémon. She then asks if you found anything interesting in the ruins, and suggests reading some of the ancient books in the Canalave City library to learn more. She then leaves to the south. Canalave City lies far to the west, beyond Jubilife City and Route 218.
