User:TrainerSplash/List of Unusable Pokemon
This is a list of Pokémon species with a known appearance and/or attributes that are intentionally unobtainable to the player in some way. They have a unique appearance to them, some of which may be considered a form in the Pokédex, others are simply a transformation without any sort of label or identifier. In the core series, some of these appearances may be accomplished through use of a move or mechanic, but otherwise remain unobtainable. In other media, such as the animated series, unique variations may be unobtainable in manners, and in many cases, these unique variations are never distributed or seen outside these media.
While there has been unobtainable species and forms in the past, such as Mega Latias, Mega Latios, and Original Color Magearna, the Pokémon listed in this article have story significance or a are tied to a mechanic that prevents the Pokémon from being distributed, in contrast to simply having unused data saved for future release of an event. Eternal Flower Floette considered an exception, as it has only appeared in story before its release twelve years later, and its original internal data having unknown use in context of Generations VI and VII.
This list does not include unreleased Shiny colorations, forms unreleased within a current-running generation and found exclusively outside to those in the core series. For a list of unique variations a Pokémon can have in other media, see: Variant Pokémon
Eternal Flower Floette
Unreleased prior to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this Floette was actually in the data of both Generation VI and Generation VII core series Nintendo 3DS titles. Under the ownership of AZ, Floette only had appeared under cinematics and story telling in Pokémon X and Y. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Floette's Eternal Flower appears in Sootopolis City, planted by AZ as he was researching Mega Evolution in Hoenn. With the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Floette would be usable for the first time, being given the the player after finishing every story mission.
It is the only form to go completely unused mechanically for more than a single game. Being in the data for two generations, and then absent completely for nine years. Legends: Z-A would release twelve years after X and Y, having the largest gap between appearance and release.
Ange
Ange and several Eternal Flowers will fight the player during the climax of Pokémon Legends: Z-A as part of Hyperrouge Ange Floette. They are not coded as Pokémon, but rather, as objects, despite systematically being a part of Floette's own power.
Rotom
There is four known appearances of the Pokémon, Rotom, who can apply itself into different machines. None of these are classified as forms, other than the Rotom Dex in the animated series. These forms include the Rotom Dex, the Rotom Phone, Rotomi and Rotom Drones. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Rotom Dex can be use din battle, randomly granting the player a second use of Z-Power for a Z-Move. The Rotom Phone in Galar can connect to a Rotom Bike for traversal reasons.

Zygarde
Zygarde is a Pokémon collectively made up of smaller parts, known as Zygarde Cells, which act as Zygarde's body, allowing for movement and attacks, and Zygarde Cores, which act as the brains of Zygarde. In Pokémon Sun and Moon they act exclusively as items for the player to collect, allowing them to form a full Zygarde. On their own they cannot use attacks, and cells are even stated to lack a will of their own. In-universe it is difficult for biologists to even consider them Pokémon for this reason.
Mother Beast
Exclusive to Pokémon Sun and Moon, the Ultra Beast, Nihilego is able to latch onto a host, causing the host to behave in abnormal manners. In particular instances, as with Lusamine, Nihilego can assume fusion with its host. Intenerally this fusion is called Mother Beast, a fusion of Lusamine's own and the UB's developmental codenames, while the Alola Region Artworks labeles it as a form of Lusamine.
In this state, Mother Beast is only fought as a Trainer, with name and Trainer Class still being labeled as Aether President Lusamine. After the fight with her, Nihilego detaches from its host and returns to its usual appearance.
Eternamax Eternatus
During the Darkest Day of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Legednary Eternatus is shown to absorb massive amounts of energy throughout the Galar region. Absorbing enough of this material, Eternatus can perform a form change similar to Dynamax and Gigantamax known as Eternamax. Eternamax Eternatus is exclusively fought as a boss (among cinematics) similar to that of a Max Raid Battle and fucntions similar to how the raid boss would.
While Eternamax Eternatus is unusable, it has its own preset base stats and even appears in the Pokédex when Eternatus is caught. It also briefly appears in Eternatus' Eternabeam attack.
Noble and Ride Pokémon of Hisui
The ten Noble and Ride Pokémon of the Hisui region are Pokémon who cannot be obtained by the player, but in many cases can be battled. They are visually distinct form other Pokémon, but the Noble Pokémon are larger in size, giving them drastically different weight and height, similar to that of the Totem Pokémon in Alola.
In battle, the Noble Pokémon glow a bright yellow, signifying their rage caused by the space-time distortion that looms over Mount Coronet. This treats them uniquely as form internally, and if hacked into being usable by the player, they will retain this yellow effect.
Starmobile
Team Star during Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Starfall Street storyline uses a set of five Revavroom decorated according to their own type and appearance. Unlike other Pokémon, this group is not coded to have base stats, rather it edits the exact stats to the previously existing Pokémon that was last sent out.
Similar species
- Totem Pokémon
The Totem Pokémon in Alola are a group of Pokémon who reside in the trial sites seen throughout its four islands. The Pokémon themselves cannot be obtained in trials, and in Pokémon Sun and Moon, unobtainable at all without trading from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. All totems, wish exception of Wishiwashi have a unique form difference that makes then larger in size. This these form variations are obtainable in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as totem-like Pokémon, replicating those found during trials. Totem-like Pokémon brought into Pokémon HOME will be changed into their ordinary forms.
Totem and Totem-like Pokémon are not registered in the Pokédex despite their internals suggesting so.
- Titan Pokémon
Titan Pokémon are large Pokémon, similar to Totem and Noble Pokémon. These larger-scaled Pokémon are initially unobtainable in their larger appearances, their size acting exclusively for the boss battle. After their initial defeat, they can be battled again and caught, giving them a mark that signifies that they were once of titanic-size.
Titan Pokémon are not considered a form in the Pokédex.
