Zygarde Core

A Zygarde Core (Japanese: ジガルデ・コア Zygarde Core) is a cell-like component of the Legendary Pokémon Zygarde, acting as its brain. On their own, they have little power, but by gathering Zygarde Cells, they can assemble Zygarde's different forms.
Biology
Zygarde Cores are small, green, cell-like blobs that resemble a planarian and are almost indistinguishable from a Zygarde Cell. Their bodies are gelatinous, semitranslucent, and can be segmented into three sections: a large, round head, an abdomen with a colored hexagon, and a stubby tail. They have two eyes, though one is larger and has a black pupil, and are most commonly seen standing on their tail. Embedded inside their abdomen, there is a red hexagon, which has also appeared in blue in Pokémon the Series: XY.
On its own, a Core does not have the power to battle, needing to assemble with other Cores and Cells in order to take action. Unlike Cells, Cores are described as having wills, sometimes even acting on their own.[1] Zygarde 10% Forme contains a single Core, which only allows it to function for a short time. When Zygarde needs to fight, it will transform into 10% Forme by having the Cores call for Cells across great distances.[2] Complete Forme Zygarde contain five Cores, one for each of its wings and tail, allowing them to act independently.[3] in Pokémon the Series: XY, however, it was shown to be possible to assemble a Zygarde Complete Forme from two or even a single Core. It is stated by L that Cells and Cores are able to absorb the power present in far-off regions.[4]
As depicted throughout Pokémon the Series: XY, Zygarde Cores have the ability to turn invisible and fly. They can watch over the ecosystem through the eyes of a Cell, can communicate telepathically with other Cores, and do not need to eat, instead absorbing sunlight for sustenance.

In the core series games
When Zygarde changes into its Complete Forme via Power Construct, Zygarde Cores appear merging with Zygarde, depicted as red hexagons, as opposed to Cells which are depicted as green hexagons.
Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon

Zygarde Cores can be found all around the Alola region in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Upon receiving the Zygarde Cube from Dexio in Heahea City, the player is tasked with collecting all 95 Cells and five Cores spread throughout the region. Each Core unlocks a specific move for Zygarde to learn, as seen below.
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Zygarde Cells and Zygarde Cores are not directly collectable as they were in Sun and Moon. All five moves are already unlocked upon receiving the Zygarde Cube from Dexio. The player can instead collect 100 Totem Stickers, replacing the 95 Cells and 5 Cores.
Locations
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, a total of five Cores can be collected. They are found either at an island kahuna's home, or the player's room. The Cores located in Melemele Island will only appear after the player has obtained the Zygarde Cube from Dexio in Akala Island's Heahea City.
The locations of all the Cores in Pokémon Sun and Moon are below:
| Location | Core | Move |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Poni Path | In the back of the bedroom in Hapu's house | Core Enforcer |
| Iki Town | On the porch in the northeastern room of Hala's house | Thousand Arrows |
| Route 17 | At the back of the Po Town Police Station | Thousand Waves |
| Route 1 | In the player's room, by the bed | Extreme Speed |
| Konikoni City | In front of the refrigerator in Olivia's room | Dragon Dance |
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
A Zygarde Core appears fully modeled and capable of moving around in the game, but only briefly during Jacinthe's tournament at Hotel Richissime. This Core arrives to combine with Zygarde's 10% Forme to achieve the 50% Forme for their rematch against the player. Cores appear as red hexagons when Zygarde transforms into its Complete Forme at the end of the game, similarly to Power Construct.
