This is a list of Pokémon Trainers that may be battled during the Battle Maison challenges and relevant data that pertains to them. Each Trainer the player faces uses a randomly-selected team from a specific roster of Pokémon. The roster is specific to the Trainers themselves and often depends on their Trainer class.

Groups

Ever opponent the player faces in the Battle Maison will use a team of Pokémon randomly selected from a roster. This roster, with a few exceptions, will be exclusively made up of one or several Pokémon groups.

Normal Groups

The different species available to NPC opponents in the normal battles are divided into two groups: a low tier (Group L) and a mid tier (Group M). Trainers from the normal Battle Maison challenges will exclusively use Pokémon from one group or the other. Starting from Battle No. 11, the player begin facing Trainers using mid-tier teams.

Super Groups

The 216 species of Pokémon that may be used by a Battle Maison Trainer are divided into five disjoint groups: four groups of 49 non-Legendary Pokémon and one group of 20 Legendary Pokémon. Trainers who do not specialize typically have rosters made up of two of the generic non-Legendary groups A, B, C, and D. The Legendary Pokémon group is exclusive to Veterans and Battle Chatelaines, but certain Legendary Pokémon may still be used by other opponents.

Type Groups

Most Battle Maison Trainers who specialize do so by type. A type specialist would typically have a Pokémon roster consisting of two to three type groups.

Characteristic Groups

Some specialists' rosters contain groups of Pokémon that share a common characteristic or categorization.

  • Eeveelutions: Contains all evolved forms of Eevee
  • Fossils: Contains all Pokémon that can be revived from a fossil
  • Starters: Contains all starter Pokémon from all six generations
  • 120+ Sp Attack: Contains 16 of the highest-Special Attack, non-Legendary Pokémon, plus Latios
  • 100+ Sp Defense: Contains 16 of the highest-Special Defense, non-Legendary Pokémon, plus Latias

Strategy Groups

Certain Trainers will have unique rosters of Pokémon based around a specific strategy. The Pokémon in these groups may be selected based on their non-Hidden Abilities, moves, or held item. Because moves and items are based on a Pokémon's set rather than species, these are the only groups that may mix different Pokémon of different sets.

Pokémon Sets

Main article: List of Battle Maison Pokémon

Every species of Pokémon used by NPC opponents have multiple sets that determine nature, held item and effort value spread. There are two sets per species in the Normal Battles and four in the Super Battles. The move set used is dependent on the opponent themselves, and some opponents may use multiple sets.

Generally for the Super Battles, higher-numbered sets are encountered more frequently at higher win streaks. Legendary Pokémon however do not follow this pattern, since Trainers who use them all begin appearing starting at the 41st battle.

Trainer Tiers

Additionally, NPC Trainers are broken up into different tiers. The tier of a Trainer determines when they are encountered during the player's win streak and the individual values of their Pokémon. The move sets used by a Trainer are also closely related to the tier. As the player's streak advances, Trainers of higher tiers will appear with more frequency.
