Spiky Shield (Japanese: ニードルガード Needle Guard) is a damage-dealing Grass-type move introduced in Generation VI. It is the signature move of Chesnaught.
Effect
Spiky Shield protects the user from all effects of moves that target it during the turn it is used, including damage. (This does not include damage afflicted by weather conditions it is susceptible to, or damage from a status ailment that it obtained on a previous turn.) Additionally, if Spiky Shield blocks an attack that would make contact with the user, the attacker suffers damage equal to 1/8 of its maximum HP. However, Spiky Shield does not stack with the effects of Rocky Helmet or Rough Skin.
Using Spiky Shield, Protect, Detect, Endure, Quick Guard, Wide Guard, or King's Shield consecutively decreases the chance of success to 30%. This is an increased priority move, and therefore will always go before attacks during the turn.
Spiky Shield is unable to defend against any of the following moves:
Additionally, Feint, Phantom Force, and Shadow Force lift Spiky Shield's protection for the rest of the turn.
