A Technical Machine or TM is a machine used by Pokémon trainers to teach a Pokémon a new technique, or move that it would not otherwise learn. TMs are good for only one use, unlike Hidden Machines or HMs, which can be used over and over again on many different Pokémon. TMs can be found on the ground or bought at department stores.

A TM can also be passed down through Breeding with the male Pokémon passing down moves in the Egg groups.

Generation I List of TMs

Generation I featured the original 50 TMs with an additional 5 HMs. These TMs were found in: Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow. Move Tutors in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen teach many of these moves to Pokémon as they are not in the most current TM set.

Generation II List of TMs

Generation II, with a newer moveset, overhauled the Generation I TMs. There were additions, removals and renumberings to the original list. There are 50 TMs and are found in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Pokémon Crystal.

Generation III List of TMs

Another moveset overhaul in Generation III forced the TM list to be readjusted once again. There are 50 TMs and are found in these games: Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon Colosseum.

Move Tutor TMs

Many of the other TMs are also available through Move Tutors in Pokémon Emerald.
