Staraptor (Japanese: ムクホーク Mukuhawk) is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon.

Staraptor evolves from Staravia at Level 34.

Biology

Physiology

Staraptor bares a resemblance to a cross between a large gray and white starling and a hawk. It also shares similarities with the great-horned owl and harpy eagle. The "M" on the center of its chest resembles the first letter of its Japanese name (Mukuhawk). The downward crest on its head makes it appear larger in order to frighten its enemies.

Gender differences

A female has a smaller white spot on its forehead.

Special abilities

Behavior

Staraptor are a highly aggressive and dangerous flying-type Pokémon. They often live alone, or with a mate. They are found during the day often soaring up high in the sky searching for prey below. In the mornings and the evenings, they are found at their favorite roost, preening or eating their catch. At night, they roost high in their favorite trees.

Habitat

Staraptor live in an array of habitats including open forest, grassland, wetland, mountains, and coniferous forests.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Staraptor have the strength and the stamina to capture and eat prey larger than itself. They circle the prey from high above in the air, then dive and snatch up the prey then, finish it off with their sharp beaks.

Staraptor first appeared in Following a Maiden's Voyage. Piplup unintentionally hit Staraptor with Bubblebeam and caused it to use Gust which wrecked Professor Rowan's lab.

A Staraptor belonging to Reiji appeared in DP066 and started teaching Ash's Staravia Brave Bird.

After J dropped Ash out of her airship in DP072, he was saved by a Staraptor that Hajime had captured with his Capture Styler.
