Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time (Japanese: ポケモン不思議のダンジョン 時の探検隊) and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness (Japanese: ポケモン不思議のダンジョン 闇の探検隊) are a matched pair of Pokémon games for the Nintendo DS.

The games are a sequel to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. They include the new Generation IV Pokémon and have some Wi-Fi features, as well as more dual-screen features than their predecessor for the same system (Mystery Dungeon Blue).

An anime adaptation of these games has been produced.

These games feature 491 Pokémon; Shaymin and Arceus were excluded for they had yet to be officially revealed when the games were released. The games were released on April 20th, 2008.

Plot

After selecting a Pokémon from the personality test, the game jumps right in as the player wakes up on a beach, after a scene with their partner outside the Wigglytuff Guild with a mysterious rock with a symbol embedded on the top. The partner wants to be an explorer but can't yet join the Wigglytuff Guild due to the lack of bravery. So after the two defeat two Pokémon criminals, a Zubat and Koffing, they make a team together.

Mudkip Rash Lonely Skilled in Water-type moves, Mudkip checks its surroundings using the fin on its head.
Skitty* Hasty Naïve Skitty is so adorable that its Cute Charm Ability can even infatuate its foes.
Turtwig Bold Timid Turtwig is a Grass-type Pokémon. Will it be powerful in grassy areas?
Chimchar Naïve Impish Using Fire-type moves with Chimchar will definitely help you out in a pinch.
Piplup Impish Quirky Piplup is friendly and enthusiastic. It will make a great Pokémon adventurer!
Munchlax* Relaxed Jolly Let's hope Munchlax's hunger doesn't stop it from being a great adventurer.

  • Kecleon - Runs two shops, one for consumables, one for orbs and TMs.
  • Duskull - Operates the Duskull Bank, where you can store your extra cash.
  • Electivire - Will link moves and allow you to relearn forgotten moves.
  • Chansey Description - Chansey runs the Day Care, and its happy to take care of your egg until it hatches!
  • Marowak Description - Marowak runs the dojo where you can train and improve your battle skills.
  • Magnezone Description - When you capture Pokémon fugitives, deliver them to Magnezone, the town sheriff.

Dungeon Tips

  • If the player remains on one floor of a dungeon for too long, this will happen:
    • It will say "Something is stirring".
    • It will say "Something is approaching".
    • It will say "It's coming closer."
    • It will say "It's right near! It's gusting hard!" Then the player's character will faint.
  • Pokémon with the Float terrain ability who try to cross magma will get burned (unless they have the "All-Terrain Hiker" IQ skill or are also Fire-type).
  • Fully evolved Pokémon can be recruited in the game. However, they will have lower recruit rates.
