League Ribbons are obtained by entering the Hall of Fame in different regions, and are all retained if a Pokémon is transferred to a later generation. All Pokémon in the party will receive the Ribbon, even if some of them fainted or were never sent out in battle.
Among games in which Ribbons can be awarded, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the only games where winning the Pokémon League does not award a Ribbon.

Gold-colored version of the Ribbon above for a Pokémon with all 20 Contest Ribbons and all 20 Super Contest Ribbons. In Generation VII, due to a coding error, it instead appears for a Pokémon with at least one previous Contest Ribbon and at least 39 other preserved Ribbons, which is impossible to achieve under normal circumstances.
Obtained by winning a set of seven battles that extends the current streak to 56 or more.
Sinnoh/Johto Battle Tower Ribbons
The Sinnoh/Johto Battle Tower Ribbons are obtained by conquering different modes of the Battle Tower in Generation IVgames. These Ribbons are retained if a Pokémon is transferred as far as Generation V, but if a Pokémon with one of these Ribbons is transferred to Generation VI, they will all be replaced by a Battle Memory Ribbon.
Obtained by defeating Palmer on the 21st battle of a Single Battle streak at Battle Tower. After this Ribbon has been earned, earning it again on other Pokémon requires either losing the streak to start over, or extending the streak to 1813 wins. It is awarded to all three Pokémon selected for the team, even if some of them fainted or were never used. Not available in the other facilities of the Battle Frontier.
Great Ability Ribbon グレートアビリティリボンGreat Ability Ribbon
Obtained by defeating Palmer on the 49th battle of a Single Battle streak at Battle Tower After this Ribbon has been earned, earning it again on other Pokémon requires either losing the streak to start over, or extending the streak to 1841 wins. It is awarded to all three Pokémon selected for the team, even if some of them fainted or were never used. Not available in the other facilities of the Battle Frontier.
If the player's current Double Battle streak at the Battle Tower is exactly 49 wins, this Ribbon is obtained by starting another set in the streak and winning at least one more battle to extend the streak to 50 wins, even if the player then loses before the seventh battle of the set. If the player's current streak is 56 wins or more, merely starting another set will award this Ribbon to the selected team, even if the player then loses the first battle to break the streak. Not available in the other facilities of the Battle Frontier.
Multi Ability Ribbon マルチアビリティリボンMulti Ability Ribbon
If the player's current Multi Battle streak with an NPC teammate at the Battle Tower is exactly 49 wins, this Ribbon is obtained by starting another set in the streak and winning at least one more battle to extend the streak to 50 wins, even if the player then loses before the seventh battle of the set. If the player's current streak is 56 wins or more, merely starting another set will award this Ribbon to the selected team, even if the player then loses the first battle to break the streak. Not available in the other facilities of the Battle Frontier.
If the player's current Multi Battle streak with another linked teammate at the Battle Tower is exactly 49 wins, this Ribbon is obtained by starting another set in the streak and winning at least one more battle to extend the streak to 50 wins, even if the players then lose before the seventh battle of the set. If the current streak is 56 wins or more, merely starting another set will award this Ribbon to the selected team, even if the players then lose the first battle to break the streak. Not available in the other facilities of the Battle Frontier.
World Ability Ribbon ワールドアビリティリボンWorld Ability Ribbon
Obtained by winning a set of seven battles in a Wi-Fi Room at Battle Tower while the player's current rank was at least Rank 4 but no more than Rank 9, thereby earning an increase in rank at the end of the set. If the player was already Rank 10, they had to lose a battle and drop to Rank 9 before they could earn this Ribbon again. Choosing the option to retry a previous room for practice did not count, even if the player proceeded to win all seven battles. This Ribbon is no longer officially available after DS WFC servers shut down in 2014.
Battle Maison, Royal, Tree, and Galar Tower Ribbons
These Ribbons are obtained from the appropriate postgame battle facilities of their respective regions. Unlike previous Tower Ribbons, they are still preserved on their own and do not get collapsed into a Battle Memory Ribbon.
Gold-colored version of the Ribbon above for a Pokémon with all eight Tower Ribbons introduced prior to Generation VI. In Generation VII, due to a coding error, it instead appears for a Pokémon with at least one previous Tower Ribbon and at least 7 other preserved Ribbons. As of Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon that obtained seven out of the eight possible Ribbons will also display this version, likely due to the fact that the World Ability Ribbon had not been officially obtainable for 8 years as of the game's release.
Memorial Ribbons
The Memorial Ribbons are awarded for various reasons in-game, some trivial and some requiring effort. All are retained if a Pokémon is transferred to a later generation, but most are also available in multiple generations.
Obtained by winning a Master Rank or Link Contest in Hoenn with a high score (equivalent to 40 hearts or more between the two rounds), and agreeing to have the Pokémon's portrait placed in the Lilycove Museum after being offered. If the player has not already spoken to the curator at the museum at least once before, no paintings will be offered, no matter how high the winning score is.

Gorgeous Royal Ribbon ゴージャスロイヤルリボンGorgeous Royal Ribbon
In Generation IV, the Ribbon is given to a Pokémon with maximum friendship. In Generations VI and VII, it is given to a Pokémon whose current level is at least 30 higher than the level it was caught, received, or transferred to Generation V at. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Ribbon is similarly given to a Pokémon whose current level is 30 higher than the level it was caught or received; however, a certain group of "voiceless" Pokémon will be awarded the Ribbon for achieving maximum friendship instead.
After the player has already reached MAX Rank in a Ranked Battle season, every time the player wins a Ranked Battle for the rest of that season while they are not borrowing a rental team, all the Pokémon on the player's team that don't already have this Ribbon will receive it, even the ones that were not selected at Team Preview. In Pokémon Champions, if the player wins a Ranked Battle match while in Master Ball Tier, the Pokémon on the Battle Team that was used will receive the title that this Ribbon grants.
Obtained by preparing the Pokémon in Dagero's photo studio, even if no photos ultimately are taken.
This Ribbon is not displayed in Generation VIII, nor in Pokémon HOME prior to version 3.0.0, and its only noticeable interaction within that generation is that it counts toward the 10 Ribbon types needed to unlock the Ribbon Syndicate in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl if the Pokémon is transferred there.
Initially named the Pioneer Ribbon (パイオニアリボン) in the internal data of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

According to the official guidebook, the chance for a Pokémon to be granted this Ribbon while being traded through Surprise Trade is intended to be 1/100;[1] however, similarly to the Itemfinder Mark (prior to v2.0.1), no logic to grant the Ribbon appears to exist in the game's code, and there have been no verifiable reports of it being legitimately obtained. Additionally, due to the prevalence of cheating (unless the logic can be properly found within the game's programming), it is incredibly difficult to prove this Ribbon as legitimately obtainable, as trading partners are random in Surprise Trade, and the sender may have used third-party tools to apply the Ribbon before trading, rather than it being legitimately applied during the trade.
All of the Pokémon received from in-game trades with special coaches in the League Club Room have this Ribbon. Certain event distribution Pokémon meant to belong to a specific Trainer, such as Liko's Sprigatito, also have this ribbon in addition to their Gift Ribbon. This Ribbon cannot be earned otherwise.
Gift Ribbons
The Gift Ribbons all originate from sources external to the core series Pokémon games. Two, the National Ribbon and the Earth Ribbon, come from Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD, which have connectivity with the core Generation III games. Otherwise, the most common Gift Ribbons are distributed on event Pokémon. The Country and World Ribbons were given out to winners of Pokémon League tournaments that were held during Pokémon Festa in 2004, 2005 and 2007*. The Regional Champion, National Champion and World Champion Ribbons appear to have been intended to be given out in a similar way at corresponding VGC tournaments, however this did not occur. These Ribbons are retained if a Pokémon with them is transferred to a later generation.
Given to Shadow Pokémon that have been purified. In the Generation III handheld games, the description will be empty if the game did not previously receive a Pokémon with the Ribbon via trading with Colosseum or XD.
Given to all Pokémon in the party after a hundred wins. In Generation III handheld games, the description will be empty if the game did not previously receive a Pokémon with the Ribbon via trading with Colosseum or XD.
Prevents trading the Pokémon with the Ribbon over the GTS and Wonder Trade. In Generation IV handheld games, the description will be "A commemorative Ribbon obtained in a Mystery Zone." if the game did not previously receive a Pokémon with the Ribbon via Mystery Gift.
