The Armor Fossil (Japanese: たてのカセキShield Fossil) is a fossil introduced in Generation IV that can be regenerated into Shieldon. It is the counterpart of the Skull Fossil.
The Armor Fossil was introduced as a Trainer card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game in the Mysterious Treasures expansion, first released in the Japanese Secret of the Lakes expansion. It is a Fossil Trainer card, so after being played it is put on the Bench as a Colorless-typeBasic Pokémon. It has a Poké-Body that says if it is damaged by an opponent's Pokémon's attack, Armor Fossil's owner can flip coins until they get tails and, for each heads, reduce the damage done by the Attacking Pokémon by ten. It can evolve into Shieldon that evolve from an Armor Fossil.
During the XY Series, the Steam Siege expansion included the Item cardArmor Fossil Shieldon. It allows players to look at the bottom seven cards of their deck, reveal a Shieldon they find there, and put it onto their Bench. The other six cards are then shuffled back into the deck.
The Mega Evolution Series saw the release of Antique Armor Fossil in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion. This card is more in line with other Item cards depicting Fossils, allowing the player to play it onto the Bench as if it were a Colorless-typeBasic Pokémon. It has an Ability that activates if it is in the Active Spot, and reduces damage done to all of the player's Pokémon from attacks used by the opponent's Pokémon by 10.
Armor Fossils are also featured on Unidentified Fossil cards. They are Fossil Trainer cards that can evolve into certain Shieldon.
An Armor Fossil is also seen in the artwork of the Fossil Excavator card from the Mysterious Treasures expansion.
