It’s an exciting day for our heroes: Goh visits his first Pokémon trading event, and Ash has an official battle against a Bug-type Trainer named Kricketina. Kricketina wants to trade her Heracross for Goh’s Pinsir, but Goh can’t bring himself to do it. Trying to lure a wild Pinsir, Kricketina sets out a batch of homemade treats, but the food ends up attracting a ravenous Team Rocket instead! When Team Rocket gets caught, they try to steal our heroes’ Pokémon—but Heracross steps in and saves the day! Then, after Goh catches a wild Pinsir, he’s ready to trade with Kricketina, and Heracross is happy to join his team!

Professor Cerise informs Ash and Goh that the local Pokémon Center is hosting a Pokémon trading event. They rush over to the Center, where Goh looks around for a viable trade partner. He soon meets Bug enthusiast Kricketina Kylie, whom he initially mistakes for a Kricketune because of her cosplay. When she learns Goh already has all of the Bug Pokémon available in Kanto, Kricketina reveals that she has every Bug-type in the Sinnoh region and is now on a journey to catch Bug-type Pokémon from other regions. She then receives an alert on her Rotom Phone and accepts an official World Coronation Series match against Ash. With the Drone Rotom officiating the Great Class match. Ash selects Pikachu to take on Kricketina's Heracross. Pikachu uses Quick Attack, but he is forced to avoid Heracross's Arm Thrust. Kricketina has Heracross use Fury Attack before switching to Megahorn. Pikachu stops running and hurls an Electroweb to ensnare his opponent before defeating Heracross with an Iron Tail. Ash's ranking increases as a result to 890, while Kricketina's falls.

Returning to the Pokémon Center to have Heracross healed, Kricketina shows off her Sinnoh Bug collection, and Goh shows his own collection on the Rotom Phone. Kricketina is excited to see Goh has a rare Pinsir and offers to trade her Heracross for it. Goh remarks that he cannot give up his Pinsir, but he offers to help Kricketina search for one instead. He, Ash, and Kricketina venture into Vermilion Forest, where Goh originally caught his own Pinsir. Goh calls out his Pinsir to assist in the search. While taking a break, Kricketina decides on trying a new strategy: her Kricketina Treats, a blend of Berries and herbs concocted to attract Pinsir. They set up the bait across the forest and wait for Pinsir to arrive.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket has also ventured into the forest, trying to catch something to impress the Boss. However, they are hungry, and even confronting a weak Caterpie is too much of an effort for Wobbuffet. Jessie explodes with rage, with the trio blaming the arrival of the gluttonous Morpeko for their starvation. At that moment, the scent of the Kricketina Treats wafts over the trio, and they follow the aroma to a plate set up on a tree stump. As they are about to eat it, they spot Morpeko licking up some of the mixture on a nearby tree and run for cover. However, they become too hungry to ignore the scent and begin eating it as well. They soon find and eat other plates of the mixture left by Kricketina and her friends. Ash and the others soon return to inspect their Pinsir trap, only to find the plates have been completely cleaned and no Pinsir in sight. Kricketina notes that Bug Pokémon couldn't be behind the clean plates, and odd noises lead Ash and the others to Team Rocket, who are busy finishing the bait.

A replenished Team Rocket recites their motto, saying the bait really wasn't good. Jessie declares that they will capture the twerps' Pokémon before summoning the Rocket Prize Master. Jessie and James receive a Scolipede and Drapion, respectively, which momentarily distracts Kricketina. As Team Rocket orders their Pokémon to attack, Scolipede and Drapion are distracted by a nearby plate of the Kricketina Treat. Meowth resorts to launching a net, and he manages to catch Ash, Kricketina, Pikachu, Goh's Sobble, and Raboot. Sobble immediately starts crying, causing everyone else to start tearing up as well. Goh tries using Pinsir, but it is reluctant to battle, while Heracross wants to go. Meowth attacks with his claws, only to be knocked back by Heracross's Arm Thrust. Meowth retaliates with Fury Swipes, but he is battered by Heracross's Fury Attack. Jessie and Wobbuffet decide to kidnap Pinsir, though Heracross intervenes and sends them flying back with a flurry of Aerial Aces. Pinsir is touched by Heracross's bravery and develops a crush on him. Goh calls for a finishing Megahorn, sending Team Rocket blasting off.

A wild Pinsir finally appears, lured out by a Kricketina Treat. With Kricketina still trapped and unable to catch it, Goh throws a Poké Ball and catches the Pinsir instead. Once freed from the net, Kricketina again offers to trade her Heracross for Pinsir. Kricketina insists that Goh have one particular Heracross, seeing as his Pinsir has developed a crush on him and admitting she has caught multiple Heracross. Returning to the Pokémon Center, Kricketina and Goh make an official trade using a trade machine. Afterwards, they each call out their new Pokémon. Kricketina proves to be too overbearing for her new Pinsir, though Goh's new Heracross uses his horn to toss her away. Goh tells Heracross that he is glad to have him on his team.

Who's That Pokémon?

Who's That Pokémon?: Heracross

  • In the original Japanese version, Goh's Rotom Phone incorrectly lists Heracross as a pure Bug type, instead of a Bug/Fighting type. This was fixed in the English dub.
  • When Kricketina praises Team Rocket's Pokémon, she says they are amazing Bug types, even though Drapion is actually not a Bug type.
