Repel is an item which lets you walk a certain number of steps without encountering Pokémon lower than those in your party. It is manufactured by Silph Co., and is sold in most Poké Marts. The aerosol can that Repel comes in makes it very similar to insect repellant. It comes in three strengths.

Types of Repel
The Repel (Japanese: むしよけスプレー Repellent Spray) is a type of item introduced in Generation I.

Repel
The Super Repel and Max Repel are stronger versions of this item.

The most standard and common type of Repel. It keeps lower level Pokémon away for 100 steps and can be bought from Poké Marts for PDollar350.

Super Repel
Effect
When used from the Bag in the overworld, it prevents certain wild Pokémon from appearing for 100 steps:

An improved Repel that does the same job as regular Repel for 200 steps. Super Repel costs PDollar500. It is found at most Pokémarts.
* In Generation I, and from Generation VI onwards, this applies to wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first member of the party.
* From Generation II to V, this applies to wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first non-fainted member of the party.

Max Repel
In Black and White, this item does not prevent wild Pokémon from appearing in the White Forest.

Max Repel is the best Repel (works for 250 steps) and most expensive at PDollar700. It is rare, but is available later in the game.
Starting in Black and White, if the player still has more of this item when the effect wears off, the game will automatically ask the player whether they want to use another one immediately.

Cleanse Tag
In Sword and Shield, it prevents hidden encounters; it does not prevent symbol encounters or wanderers.

Keeps wild Pokémon away if the first Pokémon in a party holds it. It is found in the top floor of the Lost Tower at the bottom of Solaceon Town (). Not purchasable.
