Pokémon world locations

Amity Square (Japanese: ふれあい広場(ひろば) Petting Square) is a park in Sinnoh where Trainers can walk around with their Pokémon and talk to them to check their moods. It is located north of Hearthome City.

The setup in Amity Square is identical to the Pikachu interaction system that was in Pokémon Yellow. Only certain small Pokémon can be taken for walks in Amity Square, usually of a "cute" appearance. Pokémon will fetch Berries, AccessoriesDPPt or StickersBDSP for their owners after a certain number of steps.

In Pokémon Platinum, more Pokémon are allowed in than before, and the area has been expanded and redesigned. It now includes a rather large pool of water on the west side, with a model of the Sinnoh region within. Rather than being able to cross the entire square as in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, it has been separated into exclusive east and west sides, each only accessible via their respective gate. Of special note, Pokémon Platinum allows all three of the Sinnoh first partner Pokémon and their entire evolutionary lines.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the allowed Pokémon pool is expanded further to include Eevee and its evolutions. Also, all eligible Pokémon in the player's party will be taken out to Amity Square at the one time. A Poffin making machine is situated in the northern section of the square, where Poffins can be made alongside the player's Pokémon. The camera's angle inside Amity Square can be tilted or zoomed to provide additional views of the player and Pokémon. After accessing Amity Square for the first time, the player will be given the ability to walk with one Pokémon outside of Amity Square.

The rock huts serve no purpose in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl; however, in Pokémon Platinum, they contain warp points that send the player to another rock hut in the park. Each hut contains three warp points, accessed by walking to the front, left, or right while inside the hut.

After taking an allowable Pokémon for a walk, players will find that their party has been fully healed.

Pokémon permitted

Pokémon permitted in the Amity Square vary per game.

  • In Diamond and Pearl, only 11 Pokémon were allowed: Psyduck, Pachirisu, Drifloon, Buneary, Happiny, Clefairy, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Torchic, Shroomish, and Skitty. The last four are only allowed after receiving the National Pokédex.
  • In Platinum, the Sinnoh first partner Pokémon and their evolutions are permitted as well.
  • In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Eevee and its evolutions are permitted as well.

Berry and Accessories man

In Pokémon Platinum, a man who, once a day, will give the player five Berries or one Accessory appears in the eastern side of the park. When the player enters the Square, the man will be in one of the isolated locations only accessible through the teleporters in the huts (the teleporter on the north side of a hut will always lead to one of the huts connected to the park's entrance/exit).

So long as the player stays within the park, the man will always offer the same item, but if the player has not accepted an item from the man, he may change the item he offers (as well as his position) if the player exits and reenters the park (such that the scene changes).

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

For every 200 steps that the player takes, their walking Pokémon will pick up an item. The item has an 80% chance to be an Accessory and a 20% chance to be a Berry. The Accessories that the Pokémon may pick up differ depending on the Pokémon's species, while the Berries do not. The exact item given by the Pokémon is determined at the moment they are interacted with to redeem it — therefore, it is possible to save before this interaction to try for a different item.

The player can have up to nine of each Accessory and 999 of each Berry; if they already have the maximum amount of an item, their Pokémon will not pick up any more of that specific item and will only ever pick up other items. If the player has the maximum amount of all possible items, their Pokémon will never pick up any items.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon will pick up an item every 400 steps taken by the Pokémon, (player steps do not count towards this total). Accessories are no longer present in the game, and are replaced by the ability to pick up Stickers instead.

When a Pokémon generates an item, there is a 50% chance for the item to be selected from either the Berry item table, or from its respective "species-specific" Sticker and Poké Ball table.[1]

Amity Square in the anime

In Top-Down Training!, Paul battled Cynthia in a location called 自然公園 Nature Park, which was referred to as Amity Square in the dub. The parkland features an old ruin dedicated to the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia. This area briefly reappeared in a flashback of Cynthia's journey in Whittle While You Work!.

Diamond & Pearl arc

Amity Square was mentioned by Cynthia in Suffering Psyduck. She told Diamond and Pearl of an incident where a person had been walking with their Psyduck in Amity Square when it suddenly disappeared. She also remarked how a large group of Psyduck had soon after appeared on Route 210, blocking the path to Celestic Town, and suspected that these two incidents were connected. She also revealed that Mr. Backlot is the owner of Amity Square.
