CROPPING SUGIMORI ART

This is an ongoing discussion on Bulbapedia. Most people I talked agreed that cropping and centering is fine as long as the body of the Pokémon and anything it emits remain intact. I will refrain from starting the project until we get a consensus. I am leaning towards having two versions of each page. Example: 0001Bulbasaur.png would be a resized, completely cropped and centered version that we'd use in templates. Templates display these images at a very small size and the intricacies of Sugimori art mean we can't allow dead space around the Pokémon. Bulbasaur.png (this format isn't currently used) would be the highest quality and highest resolution released by TPC. It may have a white outline, but that's fine since the image would be used in the Pokémon's main infobox template. This satisfies both groups. We have consistency on template pages, no white outlines, everything follows a strict formatting guideline, while also hosting the highest possible quality art, making them easily accessible.

OTHER

  • Finish the LA catch templates
  • Update held item sections

STAFF, PLEASE

DEX NUMBER PADDING

Padding and font change for entry templates. Ever since we hit the magic number 1000, I have been reformatting templates and pages to resemble the List of Pokémon by National Pokédex number page. My goal was to make everything appear consistent while accommodating the 4-digit format. I am very close to finishing the task. Unfortunately, the remaining templates are all locked and even after bringing that issue up to close to a dozen people with the privileges needed to edit these pages, there are still templates that need editing. Let me be very clear: these edits require maximum 30 second each. I have done the bulk of the work, and I have been contacting staff for months now. The most obvious offenders are the various Template:moveentry templates. Staff has been saying they are working on a rework for well over a year now. The thing is, the templates still look bad, they don't meet the standards of Bulbapedia. The amount of times that it took people to respond to me with this line of thinking would have been enough to edit them.

The following is a list of locked templates that need adjusting for the sake of consistency:

  • Additionally the Template:Alldex template needs a tiny bit of work. Since the National Dex and Kanto Dex numbers use the same value, the Kanto Dex number appears as a 4-digit number. This is inaccurate and should be fixed.
  • Add a zero in front of the dex numbers in the following templates: Template:G1event - Template:G2event - Template:G4event - Template:G5event. The Gen 6-9 event templates already appear with 4-digit numbers due to them using the Sugimori art. This is just consistency. Very simple fix. There is an argument to make them all appear in the monospace font as well.

Just to show how little I am asking, here is every template (and page that don't use templates)

IMAGE SIZE TWEAKS

  • The Shape and Footprint data in the Pokémon infoboxes post-Gen 5 aren't the same height. Not a huge deal, but fixable.
  • Template:MSP/BDSP and Template:MSP/LA should both display the menu sprites at 68px instead of 48px. Once again, consistency. This way every Gen 8 menusprite would be displayed the same size avoiding awkward situations like the example below, where the higher resolution artwork is shrunk for no reason.

ITEM TEMPLATES

SUGGESTIONS

  • add all HOME menu sprites under the sprite section, this would allow users to see them (since they won't be used elsewhere much)
  • Maybe increase the size of badges in Gym Leader templates (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Galar, Paldea) The size was fine for the early, more simplistic onesm, but some later ones are barely visible either due to size, complexity or the background color. Maybe just reimagine them?
  • Branched Evobox templates should only add the branched category when specified, this lets mons like Pidove, Litleo, Basculin, Espurr, etc. use it without improperly categorizing them as embers of branched families
