Trivia
- Snorunt was the first pure Template:Type2 Pokémon. All Ice-types before it had been half Ice-type. The only other pure Ice-types following it are Glalie, Regice, and Glaceon.
- Snorunt and its evolutions are the only Pokémon in the Mineral Egg Group that are in another egg group: Fairy.
- Snorunt and it's evolution Glalie, along with the Spheal evolutionary line and Regice are the only Ice-types ever to be found in the Hoenn region, probably because it is based on the tropics.
- Despite this, however, it's appearance in the anime has it set in a snowy region of Hoenn.
- Even though the Sinnoh region has a cooler climate and Ice-type Pokémon are found plenty in the north, Snorunt still requires the PokéRadar to be encountered. This fact changed in Pokémon Platinum.
Origin
Snorunt is based on a "Yukinko", a Japanese sprite said to emerge when it snows, according to folk tales, as well as the zashiki warashi, a spiritual creature found in the folklore of Iwate Prefecture. It also seems to be a stylized version of a person wearing a yuki mino, a traditional Japanese winter costume worn long ago by many people in the snowy parts of Japan consisting of a conical snow-cloak made of straw. Generally, Yukinko are depicted as small elf-like creatures wearing yuki mino.
Name origin
Snorunt's name is a combination of snow and runt, referring to a small animal. Its Japanese name possibly is a combination of 雪 yuki, snow, and 座敷童子 zashiki warashi, a spiritual creature found in the folklore of Iwate Prefecture.
