The Odd Keystone (Japanese: かなめいし Keystone) is a type of item introduced in Generation IV. Odd Keystones act like containers, capable of trapping and binding Spiritomb inside themselves. All Spiritomb use it as a base. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Odd Keystone is a Key item.
In the core series games
Price
|
In the Generation V games, the Odd Keystone can be sold to the ore maniac inside the Icirrus City Pokémon Center for $3000.
Effect
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl
In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, an Odd Keystone can be placed in the Hallowed Tower, which is located on Route 209 in the Sinnoh region. This item has no use in other regions.
If the player talks to 32 or more other players in the Sinnoh UndergroundDPPt/32 or more NPCs in the Grand UndergroundBDSP after placing the Odd Keystone, a wild Spiritomb will be encountered the next time the player inspects the Hallowed Tower.
In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, while in theory it is necessary to talk to 32 different players, in practice another player can be counted twice as long as the player themselves leaves the Underground or enters their Secret Base using the "close door and decorate" function between the interactions; this potentially allows a player to encounter Spiritomb by interacting with the same player 32 times.
Once placed in Hallowed Tower, the player can check the Odd Keystone to track their progress. The message gradually changes as the player interacts with more players in the Underground.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, after the player obtains the Odd Keystone from Vessa, they are tasked to find 107 wisps throughout Hisui. The number of wisps collected is shown on the Odd Keystone in the satchel. After the 107 wisps are found and the player talks to Vessa again, the player is tasked to go to the Shrouded Ruins to find Vessa and the final wisp. After the final wisp is found, the Odd Keystone disappears, and upon interacting with the mysterious statue in the shape of the Odd Keystone, the player can encounter Spiritomb.

Other appearances
The Odd Keystone is clearly visible on Spiritomb's body.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, an Odd Keystone appears in the overworld on Sea Mauville. It appears just before the player faces Spiritomb and therefore cannot be collected. Documents aboard the ship reveal it was originally donated by the Oreburgh Mine.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, an enormous statue in the shape of an Odd Keystone appears in the Shrouded Ruins. By interacting with the statue after obtaining all 108 wisps, the player can face Spiritomb.
In spin-off games
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, when the player and partner reach Sealed Ruin Pit, they see an Odd Keystone, not realizing it is a Pokémon. Suddenly, it will reveal itself to be Spiritomb and attack the duo.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Spiritomb's sleeping sprites involve it returning to the Odd Keystone.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
In The Keystone Pops!, while Ash and Dawn were having a practice battle between Buizel and Aipom, Buizel's Sonic Boom accidentally destroyed the Hallowed Tower, releasing a Spiritomb from the Odd Keystone sealed inside of it. Ash and Pikachu later battled Spiritomb, eventually defeating it and resealing it back into the Odd Keystone, which was then placed back into the rebuilt Hallowed Tower.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
In The Spectral Express!, Ash and Goh came across an Odd Keystone aboard a ghost train. When Ash touched it, one of Spiritomb's spirits entered his body and possessed him into doing mischievous deeds. Angered by losing one of its spirits, Spiritomb emerged from the keystone and went on a rampage. Once the spirit was forced out of Ash's body and Ash's Gengar succeeded in returning it to Spiritomb, the Forbidden Pokémon calmed down and returned into its keystone. The keystone was later taken away by a group of Gastly and Haunter when the ghost train stopped at a cemetery.
In Bewitch, Battle, and Bewilder!, an Odd Keystone appeared as a part of Cynthia's Spiritomb.

Diamond & Pearl arc
Cynthia's Spiritomb is connected to an Odd Keystone, which was fully seen in Shunning Spiritomb, when the Forbidden Pokémon was frozen by Cyrus's Weavile and she retracted into the stone.
Platinum arc
An Odd Keystone appeared in Leaping Past Lopunny among the rare stones that Steven had found during his stay in Sinnoh.
Trivia
- In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, if an Alpha Spiritomb appears, the entire face of the Odd Keystone turns red, in addition to Spiritomb's eyes.
