Characteristics
Defensively, the Ice-type is one of the worst types, only bearing a resistance to one type (itself) and being weak to four types, although two of those types are not very common. This disadvantage in defensive weaknesses is made up somewhat, since the Ice-type often finds itself paired up with the Water type, which effectively neutralizes two of its four weaknesses and gives it an offensive advantage against Rock- and Fire-types.
Offensively, the Ice-type is very strong, being one of the only two types that is super effective against Dragon-types (indeed, it finds itself more useful for handling Dragon-types than Dragon moves, since most fully-evolved Dragons have a double weakness to Ice moves) and having relatively uncommon types it is not very effective against.
