(Japanese: アヤコ Ayako) is the mother of the player character in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. In the anime, she is the mother of Hikari.
In the games
Unlike previous mothers, Ayako is less content to stay at home. After the player begins their journey, she can be found at the Contest Hall and occasionally enters Super Contests with her Nyarmar.
In the anime
Ayako first appeared in Begin! From Futaba Town to Masago Town!. She is voiced by 津村まこと Tsumura Makoto in the Japanese version.
She used to be a great Pokémon coordinator and is a former winner of the Grand Festival. Hikari wants to follow in her footsteps and become a great coordinator as well. When Hikari leaves, Ayako gives her one of her old ribbons.
