In the anime
Swampert first appeared in AG032. It evolved from a Marshtomp that was living in an abandoned ship ever since it was separated from its trainer.
Morrison introduced his Swampert to Ash and co. in AG126.
Tucker used Swampert and Arcanine to battle against Ash's Corphish and Swellow in AG153.

Swampert's name is probably derived from swamp and inert. Its Japanese name is probably a combination of lag and large, referring to its size.
