Generation V Egg Group data

Seeing as how it's apparently incredibly difficult to trust new users with simple tasks here, I reckoned I'd just provide you with [the data] and allow you to handle it as you see fit. —hexagonTHEORY 08:49, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

I was actually trying to get the opinions of a few other admins first, in particular for the ordering. I'll give you the honor of adding it to the page. Go ahead if you like. Werdnae (talk) 09:00, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I was under the impression that the template automatically padded the numbers to a length of three. Either way, thank you; I shall remember that in future. —hexagonTHEORY 09:30, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. Most templates like that don't pad the numbers, partly because it can then be sort of spoofed for the formes and stuff. Thank you for getting it all done. Werdnae (talk) 09:36, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that makes sense; those alternate Pokémon can be hell. You're welcome, but I won't lie; it was mostly all perl's doing. ^_^ —hexagonTHEORY 09:40, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

PokéPark Pictures (cont.)

Hey Werdnae, look what I found. :D I asked the guy who ripped them if we could use them and he said we could. Maybe put them on the side games template or something. Like to the left of the Pad description. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 00:54, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Werdnae, I would like to make a suggestion: I think putting the cell directly to the left of the Pad entries would be perfect, but d'you reckon you could just display the image in the actual template, then I'll just upload each of the images as PokePark001.png, etc. It seems like that would make things move far smootherly. —hexagonTHEORY 01:11, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
...well at any rate, Random Talking Bush sent all the individual images to me in PNG format to save us the trouble of cropping them all out of The Spriter's Resource. Let's decide on what we want the template to look like before deciding the file names perhaps. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 01:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Haha. It positively tickles me that none of you seem to have ever heard of programmers. Nearly all popular programming languages today are perfectly suited for ripping sections of images, so that wouldn't have been a problem; still, that was quite nice of him. Regarding the template, what could possibly be more fitting than putting the image to the left of the Pad entry? —hexagonTHEORY 01:25, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
For the file names we'll go with PPW###.png with the hashes being the ndex number. That has the added advantage of meaning that the image won't need to be added to each individual page. The images are 64px square right? I've made a quick mockup using one of the MD images stretched to 64x64 pixels to give an idea of size. Werdnae (talk) 02:47, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright. Yeah, they're 64x64. One final question and I'll start uploading them. The ###'s, do I use national dex or the Pokepark pad numbers? Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 02:50, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Ndex numbers. That way it's more consistent and there's no need for an extra parameter on the template. Werdnae (talk) 02:51, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Psst, we're all done uploading the PPW imagery; when d'you reckon they'll be displaying in the template? —hexagonTHEORY 04:33, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
How about... now. You may need to purge the cache to get it to show up on a specific page. Don't worry about manually doing them all though, the cache updates often enough on its own. Werdnae (talk) 04:55, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Glorious. It really does look quite snazzy. I think Jo might hate me now, though... —hexagonTHEORY 05:17, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Looks pretty good. =D In other news, I've been working on the Guardian Signs browser descriptions and I'm almost done with that as well. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 04:58, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

After getting all those icons uploaded, still think I should go ahead and upload those images I sent you via photobucket? (Sorry if it gets annoying always asking permission for everything[and for apologizing all the time], but I fear making a mistake will cost me. D:) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 08:47, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd say just hold on to them for now. We may want to use them at some point, but the icons will be enough for the moment. And don't worry too much about making mistakes - everyone makes them at some point. It's always okay for you to ask if you aren't sure though. Werdnae (talk) 09:18, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Generation V Experience Yields...

Nearly every single Pokémon had its Experience yield modified in some way in Generation V; any ideas regarding how to get this data into the system without having to hand-modify almost 500 Pokémon pages? The only thing I could think of was a massive switch case; while it would be stupid ugly, it would get the job done much more efficiently. What do you think about the matter? —hexagonTHEORY 05:48, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

The EV yield remains the same, right? If so the new Exp. yield could potentially replace the Battle Exp. part of the infobox - that number itself is just a formula of the Base, with the box taking up the whole width for Gen IV Pokémon (or it could have a -- like the dex numbers section). Unless the new yields are mathematically related to the old ones through a single formula then there's no way to get around adding it to the pages for all 493 Pokémon that need it unfortunately. Werdnae (talk) 09:27, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
I do think that the Battle Exp. could be done away with. However, I still don't understand why it would have to be manually added; why couldn't a huge switch case be used in the template to provide the correct Exp. yield based on the National Dex number? —hexagonTHEORY 20:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Huge switches (i.e. those with many outcomes) require a lot of server resources and cause stability issues. That's why templates have parameters, rather than just a pagename switcher. It also means that if, say, someone makes a mistake putting it in, people who notice can just fix it. Since high-use templates get protected (again, mainly to reduce server stress) they wouldn't be able to if it was just a template with a giant switch. Werdnae (talk) 20:24, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Erm, the switch case would only need to take into account the parameter passed as the National Dex and then display the correct Exp. yield accordingly; that's not server-intensive at all; it doesn't have to access any other data on the server. As for being protected, why would any other user ever need to modify the template? It would be static data, would it not? —hexagonTHEORY 00:26, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
People make mistakes in entering the data, and often it won't get noticed for a while. And it's still a very big switch, as it would need 493 possibilities. Switch size for the server load is mainly determined by the number of different outcomes available, not the size of the input itself. Putting it into that template as a permanent switch like that would cause massive load on the server, and could potentially cause them to crash. Werdnae (talk) 00:50, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure you fully understand how the #switch functionality works on a wiki, but I'm nearly positive it doesn't require a call to the server. All it does is check a value given to it and display responses based on this value. To implement the new Exp. yields, all we would be doing is passing the ndex value, which it takes from having already been declared in the template, to a switch and displaying the corresponding number. As for people inputting incorrect data, you don't seem to have caught on to the fact that I already have this data; in fact, I've already updated the List of Pokémon by effort value yield to reflect the new numbers. I like the idea of having Bulbapedia be consistent and up-to-date with its information, and that's why I'm interested in having the new numbers put up; still, I'd like for it to be done in the most efficient way possible, and that certainly doesn't mean doing it manually. [Here] is the switch case as it would need to go up somewhere in the PokémonInfobox template. Please, I implore you, drop it in (perhaps in the Battle Exp. area like you suggested, but maybe even in the actual Exp. field if you're as interested in having Bulbapedia be accurate as I am) and see if it causes any server issues. Assuming it does, I'd be happy to set something up to do it manually; if it doesn't mess anything up, however, it will be quite a joyous occasion to be able to say that Bulbapedia is striving ever closer to completion. —hexagonTHEORY 01:15, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't know the inner workings of the switch function, but what I do know is that we have been specifically told by none other than big boss Archaic that they have been determined to be problematic, and to avoid them where possible. I don't know if you were around for it, but the wiki was locked down in June as it was resulting in a 503 for about 9 out of every 10 page loads. That was largely because there used to be a switch in the roundy template, which was used everywhere. Once the switch was removed and the template broken into nine pieces as a result the issues pretty much went away. Theoretically, the switch should work fine. The servers unfortunately just aren't stable enough to have them everywhere. For the record, Bulbagarden has five servers, four of which are used for Bulbawiki (Bulbapedia, the Archives and Bulbanews). As a result I cannot and will not add that switch to the template. It will have to be a parameter. Werdnae (talk) 01:32, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

can I have a userpage? StripedRK9 00:14, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

You will be able to create your userpage once you have been a user for a certain time and have made a certain number of edits to the mainspace. Just keep contributing and you will be able to make it eventually. Werdnae (talk) 01:55, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

On Wikipedia itself, there's an "Adopt a user" thing. Does Bulbapedia have this too? --'Snorlax 00:56, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

No, we don't currently. If you'd like help with something I'd be happy to though. Just ask for it. Even if I can't help myself, I'll be able to direct you to a user who can. Werdnae (talk) 01:10, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Found an offensive name! Look at the first guy who's posting and how he signs his posts! Thought I'd let you know! - unsigned comment from 'Snorlax (talkcontribs)

Thanks for that. I'll probably just let it be since that user hasn't done anything since 2008, and even then only made that comment. If he/she does come back, that sig would fall foul of the signature policy (which was introduced after then), so that shouldn't be an issue either. Werdnae (talk) 02:16, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

I just uploaded Sekka City.png for Sekka City Page and it doesn't seem to be showing up PBnJamz 04:27, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Purging the cache fixed it. If purging the cache doesn't it can be that the Archives sometimes take a while to properly sync with Bulbapedia, in which case just waiting a while will fix it. Werdnae (talk) 04:29, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

About Takharii's Stuff, I shouldn't of been deleted. It is not even my site! Cool469talk 08:00, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

 1. For a fansite to get an article on Bulbapedia it must be very notable There are only a small number of sites that are notable enough for an article. All website articles should be made with permission from an admin. That site is not notable enough for an article at the current time.
 2. As you have been told before, you must not create an article on a website you are affiliated with. As you yourself admitted on the page, your website is affiliated with that website. Therefore you may not create an article on it.
 3. On a somewhat related note, you need to stop creating pages with which you can advertise your site. If you are just here to try and get more exposure for your site then I'd suggest you stop, or you may find yourself with a very, very lengthy block.
As you can see, it was deleted for a reason. It will not be restored. Werdnae (talk) 08:10, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm not here to advertise my site, I'm here because I found this wiki and I love Pokémon so I joined. Cool469talk 08:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Really? What is so wrong with metioning Mew the Pokémon in this page? Cool469talk 08:57, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

What is wrong with mentioning your own site on one of the most visited pages on the wiki? Does nothing in that strike you as odd? It's called advertising. And it is not allowed. If you wish to advertise your site there are plenty of places you can go to get them to put links to your site on other sites. You'll notice one thing about them all - you have to pay for it. So why should we let you advertise your site for free, hmm?
Also, please stop linking your site when you mention it in your comments. It leaves a redlink which causes it to be put on the wanted pages list, when at the moment, we do not want an article about it. Only use links like this for existing pages. Werdnae (talk) 09:07, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey werdnae, ok so for bw015 there was a character chart revealing all the pokemon and humans that would appear in this episode. This chart was revealed by sunnyshore and the source he got itt from is 100% confirmed real since he actually brought the artwork. He has also said that any one who is not on the character sheet will not be in the episode. Now I posted on the talkpage of this episode asking if it is ok for me to add these people and pokemon to the page yesterday. Since then there has beenn no response so I just put them in there but posted again on the talkpage stating why I did so. About an hour later I checked back and someone had reverted the changes but there was still no answers in the talkpage. I was wondering if you could take a look at it. The character chart is on bulbagarden and serebii forums and is in the bw015 thread. Thanks before hand :)RBK 02:49, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

I've added it back in. It's kind of a shaky ground area. We like to wait for it to air, but then we're normally going off previews, which are known to troll. I don't think we've ever managed to get a character sheet like that which has an actual episode on it before. I left most of the reasoning in the relevant section that ended up on your talk page anyway, so I'm sure you already know most of this. Werdnae (talk) 04:12, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again Werdnae :)RBK 04:29, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Werdnae (talk) 04:33, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Template problem

I was wondering if you can fix this template, when entering a different form it shows "Expression error: Unrecognised word" instead of the image and name. Pikiwyn talk 23:39, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

It should work now. The problem was that it was using the national dex number to determine whether there was a Pokémon there by determining whether it's value was greater than zero (which was also the default). It broke down when a letter was entered, as it can only do maths with numbers. I've removed the default from that bit and changed it so that it doesn't use a maths function. In other words, do exactly what you were doing before, and now it should work. (I hope). Werdnae (talk) 01:26, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Yip it works now, thanks! Pikiwyn talk 10:33, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I Have A Doubt

i want to add some sprites for multiple plasma grunts solving the multiple opponent problem for plasma grunts like the twin battles. the page said if in doubt check with admin so?--Facade11663 02:38, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Is there like. . . a combined sprite for the tag battles, or are they just two separate sprites like in Gen IV? I haven't played BW. I believe the templates are currently set up to use two individual sprites, but if they have a single combined sprite in Gen V then we should have that instead. Werdnae (talk) 02:48, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
awesome can you point me to the two individual sprite template :)--Facade11663 02:53, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, hang on, I was thinking of the party template, which wouldn't be used for the grunts. (if you're interested though, it can be seen here) The grunts seem to just have a note that they are a double battle on their prize, as seen here, but otherwise being treated as separate trainers. Doing so also helps show which Pokémon belong to which grunt. Werdnae (talk) 03:02, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
works perfectly for it thanks.--Facade11663 03:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I just needa ask, how do I edit my profile as wonderfully as others? I mean, like, about myself, what Pokemon games I play, what Pokemon I got, all these stuff. Can you help? Thanks in advance! - unsigned comment from DontDream (talkcontribs)

You'll need to make a few more edits to the mainspace (i.e. actual articles) before it will let you edit your userpage. Once you can edit it, a lot of the information people put on is contained in Usertags, so that would be a good starting point. Werdnae (talk) 09:10, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Excuse me, how do I add Usertags to my profile? I went to the page 'Bulbapedia:Usertags' but it didn't help >_<

DontDream 12:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

You had it set up right, but you need to replace the User Usertag 1 etc. with Tag name. The tags are all in this category. Werdnae (talk) 01:27, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

My ability to edit in the userspace has been cancelled. There are so many pages that I can start or edit like stubs or wanted articles but I know nothing about them. I've come seeking permision to upload some anime screenshots from The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon for the article Mirage Pokémon. They depict the expanded mirage system, mirage Pokémon outside Dr. Yung's labratory and Aggron using Bullet Seed. They are just under the 320x240 limit and are saved as PNG's, the file sizes range from 105KB to 135KB. May I upload them sometime with in the next few days?--EpicShadow 05:11, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

They don't actually have to be less than 320x240. I believe our limit is 1000x1000. Don't worry about them being to small though, they're still larget than the thumbnails on the pages would be. Go ahead and upload them, but please remember to put a lowercase file extension (i.e. png not PNG). Thanks for helping to improve Bulbapedia. Werdnae (talk) 05:20, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Just adding in, I'm not sure what you're doing with the screenshots but don't worry about any limits. Just do what you need to do. Jellotalk 05:32, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
"... but please remember to put a lowercase file extension" Would that would be under Source file name or destination file name? Sorry, I've never uploaded images before I just want to make sure I do it properly.--EpicShadow 16:08, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
The destination. It doesn't matter whether the source is lowercase or uppercase, as long as you don't change the letters. (You can't change .JPG to .png there, for example) Werdnae (talk) 01:49, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I am wondering how you put the english poster for Master of Illusions Zoroak on the main poster side. How do I get 230 pixel posters. Please help. Pika911 02:34, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Images used in articles must be uploaded to the Bulbagarden Archives, rather than hotlinked from other sites. At the moment we have the English poster from, which is a bit small to put in the infobox IMO, so I've just added it to the gallery. In general, an image can be added to an article by typing , except when the image is smaller than 200px wide, in which case that bit should be left out. For infoboxes you can normally change the image parameter to the name of the image on the archives. It won't work if the image is not on the archves. Werdnae (talk) 02:48, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Pika911 03:36, 23 December 2010 (UTC) " I am still worried that my poster image that I just Uploaded will be deleted so will it still be there for the next few days. Thanks Pika911."
Your image was deleted as we already had an image of the English poster that was the same size as the one you uploaded (i.e. the same image), except yours was stolen from PokéBeach, while the existing one was not. PokéBeach cannot be used as a source for images. Nor can Serebii. Any images stolen from PokéBeach or Serebii will be deleted on sight. Werdnae (talk) 04:37, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Pika911 06:35, 23 December 2010 (UTC)" But I got my poster from Google Images since I couldn't get any png file ones please excuse me"Pika911 06:42, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
It's likely that Google Images ripped the image from PokéBeach, then. Generally, Google Images is a poor choice for searching for images, as most of the top results will be ripped from other popular fan sites. --ZestyCactus 06:59, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Rattata Trivia

I am a little confused on one line of trivia for Rattata. Rattata has gained infamy among the fanbase due to the Youngster Joey on Route 30, and his phone calls claiming it to be within the top percentage of the species. This seems like an opionion to me, since I personally hate the beasts and I don't really know anyone who likes them myself, but when I got rid of it, my edit was reverted. What are your thoughts on the matter. (I just asked the admin that had edited last, sorry to put you on the spot). Littlmiget123 19:32, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Personally, I'd say it's as notable as the Mudkipz meme. We do mention the Mudkip meme on Mudkip's page, so . . . I'm not sure. The Top percent is mentioned on Joey's page, but it does relate a lot to the Ratatta itself. Maybe reword it so that it's more similar to the trivia on Mudkip's page? Werdnae (talk) 20:05, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Hell yeah top percentage Rattata are notable. What Werd said, just reword it. Jellotalk 20:54, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Transfer Machine

hello why is the Transfre Machine page up 4 deleation? i would like to know its valid info that wasnt on the site and their is no info for it i would like to know please and thank you Bdracula8 02:25, 23 December 2010 (UTC)brian sottile

Firstly, please don't sign your name on mainspace pages. Secondly, an article on the Transfer Machine should say what it does, not just how to unlock it. Thirdly, please read the Manual of Style to get an idea of the kind of thing that we are looking for in an article. That includes linking to other articles, categorizing the page, and following a similar format to other item articles. I don't have Black and White, so I don't know what the Transfer Machine does, but could it be under a different name here? We may be using a different translation to other Fansites. Werdnae (talk) 02:37, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Werdnae! I helped edit PS025, so when you have time, can you please check it for me to see if it sounds right? And also, when does an article becomes an actual article, not a stub? Are there requirements or something? I feel really stupid right now because I don't know anything about this! Please give me some tips as well! And when do you get a user page? How do sign a post? O.O I think I did it wrong... Eeveelutions! 17:04, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Also how to you indent for new paragraphs? Eeveelutions! 19:15, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
PS025 looks good to me. As does PS052, for which you wrote the synopsis. Just remember to use the m template for moves and the preview button and you'll be sorted. There isn't really a specific list of requirements for the stub notice to be removed from an article, but generally for manga rounds/chapters and anime episodes it gets removed once the synopsis has been written. It's always okay to check if you aren't sure though. You've been signing your posts correctly, so I think you've got that sorted.
I don't know the exact number of edits required for you to create a userpage, but you could give it a go now if you like, you may have enough edits. You've certainly passed the time requirement. If it still doesn't let you, just check occasionally.
For new paragraphs in articles, standard practice is to leave a blank line (i.e. hit enter twice), which is the wikicode for a new paragraph. Indenting for replies on talk pages is done with a colon like you just did.
As for tips... If you don't know something or aren't sure of something, just ask like you have been. There's nothing wrong with it, and it's easier for us to tell you how to do it than to correct the same mistake easily. If you see some code that you don't know what it does, try copying the section of code, preview, and then remove a bit and preview again. Whatever breaks is what the bit you just removed does. Other than that, just look at what was done on similar articles and copy the style/format.
You've been doing well so far, keep it up, and thanks for helping! Werdnae (talk) 03:35, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and you only need to link to any one article once in a section (once in the whole synopsis), which you might find makes things quicker/easier for you. Werdnae (talk) 03:37, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much! If I ever need help again (which I can almost guarantee I will), I'll ask! Is it okay to say that I feel good?Eeveelutions! 04:41, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Yup, I need help. What is a userpage exactly and what do I do with it? I feel so dumb! D:
A userpage is a place for you to put information about yourself. You can put anything you like on it except what is listed here. Many users put Usertags on their page as a simple way of conveying a lot of information. Werdnae (talk) 07:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Help Wanted

I need help Here, Here, Here, and Here. Thanks. --Landfish7 03:09, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Go ahead and move Literal ghost and the grunts. I'd like a few more opinions before you move the Marowak one, as I'm not sure which of the two proposed names would be best. I took care of Bad Egg by just moving it because the talk pages needed merging too. Werdnae (talk) 04:20, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, according to trom the (Trainer class) must stay but we haven't had a response on whether to add it to the end of Team Rocket/Plasma Grunt. I am unable to move Literal ghost because, for me, the "move" function isn't at the top of the page, I'm not sure if the page is protected from being moved or what else it could be. So for the grunts we need a bit more clarification maybe from someone higher up like deth, and as for Literal ghost, someone needs to rather unblock it from being moved or, whoever has the ability to move it should move it. Is that too confusing? --Landfish7 12:32, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm. Yes, it's move protected. Actually, looking at the protection reason, I think I'm missing a discussion that took place behind the scenes. I'd like to check with a couple of others when they come online before I move it. trom should get back to you about the grunts when he comes back online. Werdnae (talk) 19:43, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! --Landfish7 20:49, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
I don't know why the Team Rocket and Team Plasma grunts don't have a (tc) name already... Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? —darklordtrom 09:25, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
I suppose they were never put there. Also, since Literal ghost is under move protection maybe we can switch its content with Ghost (literal) and the respective talk pages. --Landfish7 16:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
I think you misunderstood what I said. I can move it, I just don't want to until I've been able to check that I'm not missing a discussion the admins had when it was protected. Werdnae (talk) 18:55, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for clearing that up. --Landfish7 22:12, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

In response to trom, yeah I think all of them should have the (Trainer class) part in order for the grunts to match the other articles, really there is no reason to NOT have the (Trainer class) part so if it's okay with everyone that means that "Team Plasma/Rocket Grunt" should have the (Tc) added; "Aqua/Magma Grunt" should be moved to "Team Aqua/Magma Grunt (Trainer class)"; And "Team Galactic (Trainer class)" can stay as is, am I correct? --Landfish7 19:51, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I've unprotected Literal Ghost. Make sure you change the pages that link to it when you move it. Werdnae (talk) 20:27, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Go ahead and move Kas to Kaz. I'd be nice if we could get a few more opinions on the glitch ones first (maybe see if there are any members of Project Glitchdex that have been active recently to get their opinions?) Super Effective Deth's responded and Skill Swap I'll try and have a look at in my games at some point. Again, make sure to change the links when you move a page. Webcomic Question

I tried asking a senior administrator this, but he didn't answer, should VG Cats have an article because of all the Pokémon jokes that's been in it? Pokedex493 17:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Personally I'm leaning towards no at the moment. Just because it has Pokémon jokes doesn't mean that it's notable for an article - otherwise a large section of the internet would be. Werdnae (talk) 20:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh. Okay, I know what you mean. Thanks. Pokedex493 21:08, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Multiple Accounts

Pika911 04:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Hi Werdnae you know the message you sent me about multiple accounts. My younger brother wanted to create a account so I had to let him. Please excuse me.Pika911 04:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

That's fine if your brother wants to make an account. Werdnae (talk) 09:26, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, that account should be unblocked now. Werdnae (talk) 10:03, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Pika911 06:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)The account still isn't unblocked I don't know what is the prob.Pika911 06:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

I've had a look in the system, and it says that that account isn't currently blocked. If I try unblock it it says that there isn't a corresponding block that can be undone. The IP address isn't blocked either (and any IP block would have expired by now anyway.) Has the account been logged in the whole time? If it has it may not have registered the unblocking. Try logging out and logging back into that account again? Alternatively, if you know how to, clear your cookies and log back in. One of those should fix it. Also, what pages is your brother trying to edit that it doesn't let you? It may be that your brother is trying to edit a protected page. Werdnae (talk) 07:11, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Userpage problem

How do get your own user page? I have edited some pages and I still can't make one. Can you tell me how to make it or how many edits I need to do? (Arceus123 03:33, 13 January 2011 (UTC))

You need to be a user for a certain time (which I don't know) and make a certain number of edits (which I also don't know). Keep going and you'll be able to edit it. When you can, just remember that your mainspace edits must always outnumber your userspace edits, as well as keeping your userspace edits to less than three a day or you will lost the ability again. This is because Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a social networking site. Werdnae (talk) 03:43, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, maybe I will ask someone else. - unsigned comment from Arceus123 (talkcontribs)

Pokémon XD obtainable Pokémon

To be honest, that was a rough solution as to not cover the 2/3 of the page with just the obtainable Pokémon. I personally believe the article looked better with the section moved into a new page, but I guess it looks okay this way too. That said, the list of the obtainable Pokémon would still be reasonable to be moved into a different page for not only convenience, but also the content's nature (too specific to fit into a mostly general information article about the game), albeit the rest of sections are yet to expanded. Either way, do as you please, I just wanted to explain myself! :P Ash_Pokemaster 00:43, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I realise that list is long, and I see where you're coming from. I didn't think that it was so long that it needed to be a completely separate page. To be completely honest, I'm not sure a list like that is needed in the mainspace at all. We don't do it for any other games, and it seems a bit. . . walkthrough/strategy guidey to me. Trivia for Pokemon Released Prior to their Game Release Date

Would it be possible to add when the Pokemon was revealed before any games (Like R/S, D/P and B/W)? Wailmer, Cacnea, Buizel, Drapion, Doryuzu are all examples of Pokemon released prior to their game release date.--Han Ji-Wan 07:23, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for interrupting your talk page Werd, but I think this is somewhat what you want. --SnorlaxMonster 07:28, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah. It'd definitely have to be a page somewhere rather than trivia on the individual pages. There are just way too many for it to be noted on individual pages. Werdnae (talk) 07:34, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
So, do I have permission to create a page for it? Or should we discuss it first with the other staff members and editors?--Han Ji-Wan 16:05, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Create it in your userspace (i.e. User:Han Ji-Wan/Pokémon released before their generation started or whatever you want the page to be called.) Once you have I'll put it here so that people know it's a potential mainspace page, and edits to it won't count towards your daily limit. (We do still require you to excercise restraint though. Something like 10 edits over the 24 hours is okay, more like 50 is not.) You can also add that as a navigation template by putting on the bottom of the page. Once it's finished I can discuss with other admins about moving it to an appropriate mainspace location. Werdnae (talk) 18:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Can I just put it in my userspace? I don't know how to set up a new page, like how SnorlaxMonster did. I tried looking it up, but had no success...--Han Ji-Wan 19:48, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, go ahead and just put it in your userspace. The way SnorlaxMonster has it set up is a table. Wikicode for table parts can be found here. Once you've got it set up, if you still need help I can add the fancy stuff like colours and stuff for you. Werdnae (talk) 20:09, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

In case you didn't see it on my page,

My reply, Sorry for not asking an admin, I didn't realise how much of a big scale edit it would be, but, hear me out, for example Catergory:Episodes that feature a Bulbasaur will list every episode that Bulbasaur ever appeared in, thus providing a much greater navigation system for what episodes Pokémon appear in, somthing the anime sections on the Species pages dose not achive and likely never will, with your perrmission I'll continue to createthe Categories and add them to each episode, on my own if I have to, and by Friday I'd easily have a massively helpful componet added to Bulbapedia, May I ask you if I should continue? Keep going. There is a minimum edit limit and a minimum time limit. I don't know the exact numbers, which are kept top secret by the Editorial Board, so you'll just have to keep editing. Also, once you can edit it, be aware that the ability to edit it is a priviledge, so you should make sure to follow the rules. Werdnae (talk) 00:08, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Considering how many times people ask you that question, I would suggest you put a header addressing those questions at the top of your talk page like Jello. Then again, that doesn't always work. --Bee § Bwakka 00:35, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

I have 3 questions: a) How do you catagorize a page? I tried but it didn't work. b) I don't know what to edit! Can you give me a couple suggestions? 1. Put on the page you wish to categorise.
 2. You might find this category useful.
 3. Anyone can welcome. Just put on their talk page. Your signature is included automatically. Note that it must have subst: at the start, otherwise the signature won't work (among other things). Werdnae (talk) 19:38, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

the gif or the png? (both or one of them) because i see nothing *confused* --Hanmac 11:49, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
The png. The gif doesn't show up at all for me (all I see is a box around the text "599.gif" for Klink, "600.gif" for Gigiaru). It happens ~every 10 seconds (for Klink at least). Stare at it for a while. --SnorlaxMonster 12:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
the gifs are from greenchu, i dont know why hotlinking does not work. does the 600.png blink also? --Hanmac 12:57, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
They both do. Since visiting the url for the first image directly, it shows up (and the gif does not blink), while the other doesn't. --SnorlaxMonster 13:01, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
i does not see a blink ... *very confused* possible you could look into the png files to see that is wrong? or that do you mean with "blink"? --Hanmac 13:21, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
It looks to me like one of the frames in the animation is either white or incomplete, and as a result it occasionally "blinks" when that frame is displayed. Werdnae (talk) 19:31, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
i dont see anything blinking the only possible is that one frame is duplicate, so it seems that the rotation stops --Hanmac 19:34, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Spr 5b 599.png
I loaded it in japng editor, and selected a smaller number of rotations from the ten or so that were in there. When I used some from the start the blinking remained, when I used some from the end the blinking disappeared. So I'm not sure what it was that was causing it, but it seems to be gone now. Oookay. . . that's odd. I checked with a few others before I uploaded it, and they all said my one didn't blink. . . I've got no idea what's causing it. Hopefully we can find one that doesn't blink for either of us. Werdnae (talk) 09:08, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Werd, yours doesn't blink for me, but there is one point where it strangely pauses. --SnorlaxMonster 10:03, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. . . Is 599.png better for either of you? Werdnae (talk) 19:52, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
for me not, it does blink and goes white of a split second --Hanmac 05:45, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey Werdnae, I was wondering if I could have permission to overwrite the current regular sprites for B and W with the animated ones. Plz let me know

Misdreavous525 00:41, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Do you have an example? Since you just joined, you probably won't be able to upload over existing sprites yet. It will display as a permission error on the Archives (which it looks like you may have seen already). There isn't anything I can do to change that, however I believe the system will change it automatically a couple of weeks after you first log in on the Archives. It's an anti-vandalism measure. So if you give it a couple of weeks you should be able to. Sorry I can't do more and thanks for trying to help. Werdnae (talk) 04:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

The official source is here. We should be able to get a Bulbanews article up soon-ish. Werdnae (talk) 20:36, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Need a small favor

If you noticed all my edits from Feb. 7th I think I might be up for a 500 edits a day tag at Template:User 500 Day. Can you help confirm this. -Tyler53841 07:25, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Looking at your contribs, I see 500 edits yesterday (the 8th) server time, and over 600 edits on the seventh (again, server time). So yes, you are certainly qualified to use the 500 edits in one day usertag. Werdnae (talk) 07:35, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, glad I was able to confirm this, especially since the area where I live is on Pacific Time. -Tyler53841 07:41, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Please help!

This user keeps deleting my talkpage comments that have nothing to do with her with gibberish. And she's deleting her warnings. Block her please I'm getting sick of this. --Pokemaster97 22:13, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

I've given a two hour cooldown block. Werdnae (talk) 22:20, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

So be it

Hi. To answer to you, I wanted to enjoy to make some changes until someone block me. I come to do the only changes I wanted to do and please stop asking questions that lead me to create another account for answer to you. Thank you and goodbye. Pould 22:09, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Prevo moves

I'm now just about ready to go on this: I have a complete set of data now, and I can start adding it to the pages as soon as is convenient.

Aside from the remaining Gen I table, there's just one modification that I've found that I need: Just as the tables denote event moves with * and tutored moves with †, I've discovered that I'll also need to denote Dream World-exclusive moves... perhaps using ‡. I hope this isn't too complicated an addition to the code.

Thanks again for your help! Bikini Miltank 07:35, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I'll get to moving the templates. Denoting Dream World exclusivity isn't too complicated. I'll add that when I move them to the templatespace. Once it's added, use a "d" for the parameter like you would have used an "e" or "t". Werdnae (talk) 04:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

JKDragon 07:21, 24 February 2011 (UTC) : Hello this is JKDragon, thank you for welcoming me and guiding me to the proper pages to look at... Now being the sort of person I am do I need to know any special sort of coding to edit here?

Bulbapedia pages are in Wikicode. There's some bits of info on that page. Linking properly is made easier by link templates. Other than that, just try copy and modify the code of an existing page that has pretty much what you want. Good luck. Werdnae (talk) 07:45, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Sunny Day

During my last few updates on that page I have been getting a "fatal error" message. -Tyler53841 07:56, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if it can be looked into. Werdnae (talk) 18:29, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Now that I remember, Rain Dance has that problem too. -Tyler53841 04:56, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Coding issue

The coding for List of Pokémon by height is having problems. Could you take a look at it? -Tyler53841 19:35, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Fixed it. Thanks for pointing it out. Werdnae (talk) 02:33, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Sprite box design

Love it! But you should add a notice when there isn't gender differences, like This Pokémon does not have any gender differences. User:Focus58 says "Hi!" --Yours Truly's Talk Page-- 20:44, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I figure that's already taken care of by the "Gender differences" section near the start of the article. Werdnae (talk) 20:54, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh...well, it still could help one who doesn't read everything.Focus58

Problems w/ Sprite box talk page

The server crashes all the time. Can you make a new page for the tests? Thanks in advance!--Focus58 14:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

It's because of the number of sprites on the page. It wasn't a problem before BW, and I find it's only a problem now if you're trying to load a diff. You may need to go into your preferences and choose not to show the page beneath the diff. Hopefully it won't be too long before most of the remaining backsprites are uploaded/redrected, and it can get put into use. I'll have a look at removing a few of the tests, but I want to keep one of each type to make sure I fix all my mistakes. Werdnae (talk) 20:03, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Bellsprout & Hoppip

Hello. I'm new to this wiki, and want to know if it's okay to post something. On the Bellsprout Pokédex page, it states that Bellsprout can be seen as a parallel to Oddish. I believe that Bellsprout can also be seen as a parallel to Hoppip. They are both part of a three stage evolutionary line, have grass as their primary type, and have a secondary type that is super effective against grass. I would like to contribute to this wiki as much as i can, so please tell me if it is necessary to do it. Furretman111 21:22, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

New comments to the bottom please. Hoppip and Bellsprout don't have as much in common as Oddish and Bellsprout. With the conditions you're proposing, you'd also have to add the Bulbasaur and Budew lines, and would only avoid adding the Sewaddle line by the strict mention of primary and secondary types. Sorry, I just don't think there are enough similarities between Hoppip and Bellsprout for it to be notable. If you'd like to help out, there's always the stubs to be expanded. Just remember that link templates are your friends. Werdnae (talk) 22:13, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Revision History for 2 pages

I wonder if it's just me or ...; the history edits of Thunder and this article cannot be viewed? I used 2 separate coms, and both cant. It been like this since 26 March. I wonder if there's any problem with these articles. -- Ruixiang95 03:18, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

It's because of the server load. It happens for any page if you are trying to view both the diff and the page content, where combined they become large enough to time out. The tech people are trying to see if there's anything they can do, but in the meantime, you can load the diff by going to your preferences and selecting the option to not show page content below the diff. For the move pages, we're also looking at a way to condense the lists of Pokemon that can learn it, as some pages, especially Sunny Day and Rain Dance, get occasional errors even when not viewing a diff. Werdnae (talk) 04:00, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Can I edit errorson trivia? Focus58 23:49, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

You're always allowed to correct or remove incorrect or obviously non-notable trivia. The current restriction's just on adding new trivia. Werdnae (talk) 08:27, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

94 gone?

um you just deleted a whole article on the glitch pokemon 94 that took me a hour to write, dont get what "Gameshark only Gen I Pokemon don't get articles" means. --Rsrdaman 02:59, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

It means that if you can't encounter it without the use of a cheating device (any third-party device that must be plugged into the Game Boy), then it isn't notable enough for an article. This is because Gen I was so glitchy that there are too many glitches without cheating devices. Also, I suggest that in future when creating articles, check that there isn't a note above the editing pane that the article has previously been deleted. 94 had been deleted previously as it was not notable. Werdnae (talk) 03:05, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
then why are there any articles on on cheat only glitch pokemon?(the non-bold ones)--Rsrdaman 03:09, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Some of them were determined to be possible via the Mew Glitch without a cheating device. Some others may have slipped by without getting noticed. I'll have a look into it. Werdnae (talk) 03:15, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Ok then, for example PC4SH is a non capturable glitch Pokémon, yet its been around for ages and has definetly not "slipped by". I hope all my time wasnt wasted, also who said cheat only Pokémon arent notable? Theres a whole part of gen 1 glitch pokemon for obtainable and non obtainable ones. I mean it is project glitchdex, to better organize efforts to write and improve articles about glitches. Just hoping that I wont waste my time on it if it will just get deleted. :/ --Rsrdaman 03:31, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I've found six so far that will be deleted, and I've still got a few more to check. With glitches and the like, it's probably better to check with SnorlaxMonster before you make the page. Werdnae (talk) 03:34, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
well i doubt that they will get deleted since they have been around for 2+ years, and you can un-delete articles right? In case it does get approved? --Rsrdaman 03:37, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
I just went and deleted the eight I found. And yes, pages can be undeleted by anyone with deletion powers. Werdnae (talk) 03:45, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Glitch pokemon pages

I saw that you un-redlinked all the glitch pokemon on list of glitch Pokémon, so can you tell me when you undelete an article so i can re-link it? Thanks! --×Rsrdaman× 17:10, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

SnorlaxMonster will likely be the one undeleting it. Werdnae (talk) 20:01, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

What is your policy exactly? I already know the spelling of every Pokemon's name by heart so we shouldn't have redirects? They don't hurt anything. They barely cause any overhead. There are over 40,000 google results for Roggenrolla and over 110,000 for Ratata + Pokemon. Thelonesoldier 11:22, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Pretty much we don't redirect for misspellings. If you would like to discuss it with other admins that's fine, but I don't think we need them. Werdnae (talk) 11:48, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
So you don't actually have a reason for not redirecting for misspellings? Then yes, where would be the most appropriate place to bring this up? Thelonesoldier 21:08, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Anna, and my name is Hermione bulbapedii. Recently I registered here, confirmed the e-mail and when I wanted to start editing your web site I could not because I read that I do not have permission to edit user pages and on my part. Moshe explain to me why that is? I write with a translator so do not be surprised if you do not understand what I wrote. (I come from Polish) - unsigned comment from Hermiona (talkcontribs)

Please sign your comments with ~~~~. You will need to make some edits to the mainspace (i.e. actual articles) before you can edit your userpage. Werdnae (talk) 01:47, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

And where these changes can be introduced?- unsigned comment from Hermiona (talkcontribs)

Any page on any of these lists that isn't protected. (i.e. any page without a prefix.) The pages in Category:Pages needing attention would be the easiest place to start. Remember Bulbapedia's an encyclopedia, not a social networking site - as a result we expect that you contribute to the articles, not just your userpage. Werdnae (talk) 19:39, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

What is the wikicode for usertags? I mean, i have no idea at all. Say i wanted a usertag that says "This user is a fan of cute kittens'. What do i write? (I'm having to ask a whole lot about this kind of stuff now, as i said on my userpage, I'm pretty clueless.) - unsigned comment from EvilKirikizan (talkcontribs)

Have a look at the coding of existing Usertags if there isn't one you want. If you copy the coding for an existing usertag, make sure you remove any categories before you save your page. Werdnae (talk) 01:47, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Copy: No credit or anything. It actually looks nice. Question: In User: Template, what do you write to get something dark? As in dark color dark for the text? Thank you! ("Thanks" is old.) ♣♣ Ƒǿҫὑṩ ❺❽ ♣♣ 20:18, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
If you want the dark/light colour templates or a hex code which isn't a template, use User Template2. Exactly the same, but the colour parameters need to be either a full colour template (including the braces) or a hex code. Werdnae (talk) 20:21, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
So Template2 is the same thing, but with hex codes? If so, YAY! (It's too hard to be mature.) ♣♣ Ƒǿҫὑṩ ❺❽ ♣♣ 21:34, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes. Werdnae (talk) 21:44, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Whoa. Thank you. ♣♣ Ƒǿҫὑṩ ❺❽ ♣♣ 21:47, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Learnset Formes

Castform should also be added to the new templates as its types change in its different forms.--MisterE13 23:49, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I was in a bit of a rush earlier and hadn't considered every possibility. Deeoxys should only be included in the templates for level, move tutor and events. In my opinion, as well as yours judging by certain comments, Pokémon whose type changes with their form should also be included in order to show STAB properly. This would imply Castform, Wormadam, Rotom, Shaymin, Darmanitan, and Meloetta.--MisterE13 03:39, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm going to look for some more staff input on this before I implement it. I can tell you though, that Castform and Darmanitan will not have forme options on the TM and Tutor tables. This is because their formes are in-battle only, and neither TMs nor move tutors can be used in battle. Werdnae (talk) 04:06, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Can't argue with that logic :)--MisterE13 04:30, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
We've decided on a new method. If the move is forme exclusive, the forme should be noted, even if it the "default" forme. If it is not forme exclusive, the "default" is put in without any forme specifier. Currently only the level4 template is set up for it. I'll change the rest when I have time, or another admin can copy it over. Werdnae (talk) 21:02, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Error on FAQ!

Just so you know, in the FAQ along with the question "Can I make games in my userspace?" it says "More more info, see the userspace policy." I didn't see the edit button so I couldn't edit it. YoshisWorld 21:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)YoshisWorld

Fixed it. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:45, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

hey there, help?

i recently created the article shiny ditto glitch, but i messed up on the capitilzation of he title. i dont know how redirects work, could you fix this for me?- unsigned comment from DJLO (talkcontribs)

Looks like PsychicRider changed it to a redirect already. To make a redirect, type #redirect: Whatever page you want it to link to Make sure to type out the full link, it doesn't work with link templates. Werdnae (talk) 20:53, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

What do you mean forums? BlockyCuzco 20:59, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

He means that we don't use talk pages for comments like yours regarding your birthday, for that kind of trivial discussion, we go to the forums. Masatoshitalk 21:57, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Precisely. Also, There have been nearly 700 episodes of the anime aired in Japan. I'd be more surprised to find that an episode hadn't aired your birthday. Werdnae (talk) 23:00, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
