Fandom jokes

So which ones are really considered notable enough to put into the list? Strip 31 plays on the fact that you can keep encountering wild Pokémon in a patch of tall grass without actually taking a step by just changing which direction you face - i.e. the method to spend as much time as you want in the Safari Zone finding the Pokémon you want. TheChrisD RantsEdits 23:22, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Obviously, everything's a play on everything. I'm fine with what's there at the moment, but by all means try and sway me otherwise. —darklordtrom 23:27, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Personally, I'm not sure which of them are more notable than others. What about a collapsible list of all the fandom jokes? Assuming that Scott sticks to his sporadic updating schedule and take another couple of years just to get to Vermillion! TheChrisD RantsEdits 09:46, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm merely conscious of the fact that we do not want to be a substitute for reading the comic itself. There isn't a lot to summarize about a four panel comic that typically has one joke in it. —darklordtrom 10:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

disambig

I think 'Super Effective' should redirect to a disambiguation with links to this and the damage modifications page, but I don't know how to do that. Either that or when it redirects to the damage modifications page it should say 'This article is about the damage modifier Super Effective. For the webcomic by the creator of VG cats, see Super Effective (webcomic)'. --Derian 17:48, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Damage modification already does the latter. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 17:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Oh whoops... --Derian 18:30, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Super Effective will now redirect to the article. Super effective goes to damage modification. —darklordtrom 22:03, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Fandom jokes

Just wondering, but is it absolutely necessary to have a bullet point for every single fandom-related joke made in the comic? It just seems a bit excessive. 梅子 21:39, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

And I somehow totally overlooked the section about the jokes above. *facepalm* My bad. 梅子 21:40, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Notice

Could we possibly put a notice up for this that could say that the article is not suitable for people under the age of say, 13 due to the sort of humor and words referenced in this article. Thanks. –MasterKenobi 15:40, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, there is User:Shiningpikablu252/PA, but it hasn't really been tested much outside talk pages and the User namespace (only Shipping:List of shippers uses it outside those namespaces). And since this page's content could probably pass for a high-end PG anyway, I might actually recommend Template:NCS if one mention each of "crap" and "penis" really is enough to be bothersome...--Shiningpikablu252 16:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Well the used strong langue once which is worty of a 12a/PG-13, if they use moderate langue then it'll still be a 12a/PG-13, but if they use strong langue again it'll be a 15/i don't know nor care. Lunick v sonela 20:04, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I know old discussion is old, but I agree with the fact that some may be uncomfortable with the word penis and so I think we could do something like all of the articles in the Shipping mainspace do and have a page that other articles like Vine Whip could link to instead in order to let readers know what they are about to be reading.

The article you are attempting to reach may contain language that is inappropriate to some readers. If you are offended by such material, please turn away now.

The notice could be named "Super Effective (webcomic)/Notice" or we could make the notice page use the name of the article and the actual article could be named "Super Effective (webcomic)/main". Catch my drift? --Landfish7 21:46, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

we have HSOWA available to all readers. no one has complained about that. i think if we simply avoid some danger words ourselves, and make note the comic has material not suitable for younger viewers, we are doing our own. im not sure we need to mention the nicknames, let people read the comic and find out. -- MAGNEDETH 04:03, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Characters' Pokémon

Some time ago, I added sections to the page detailing each character's Pokémon with the same template as we use for a character's Pokémon in the anime or manga. This was reverted, as webcomic =/= manga. Now, while I get that, the fact remains that that is just the best way to list the characters' Pokémon and the moves they know. Earlier in the day, I added them in the form of one-sentence lists at the end of each section, with tooltips for listing their moves, as an attempt to at least get that information onto the page, but that just doesn't feel right to me- I mean, this way, we can't even link to each move's respective pages, nor add any information about the Pokémon themselves. I'm asking permission to re-add the PokéTrainer templates, and if not, I'd at least like to know of an acceptable alternative to fit the information in there.

On an unrelated note, anyone know of a way to stop the site from automatically checking off the "watch this page" option whenever I edit a page? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 03:59, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Comic Was Shut Down

This page probably doesn't get a lot of traffic, but I feel the page should probably be updated since the author has discontinued the comic with a rather unceremonious ending. (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk about the ending since the series at large is inappropriate for children. Look it up at your discretion.) All of the hyperlinks under the "External Links" section lead to 404 errors. I don't think the webpages on VGCats have worked in a long time; is VGCats even around anymore? It's a shame it ended before we even met Misty, but a full discussion on what could have been doesn't belong on this talk page. I don't think we'll ever get a comic quite like it considering how immensely the fandom has changed over time. I'd like to see it preserved like a time capsule, but the article should probably be updated. Reginald Cosmic (talk) 08:29, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
