History

Gyarados's Gyaradosite

Lysandre's Shiny Gyarados first appeared in Coming Apart at the Dreams!, where it was sent out alongside his Pyroar to battle against Ash's Pokémon and Alain's Charizard. Lysandre immediately Mega Evolved it and had it and Pyroar fire off their Incinerate attacks. Their attacks, however, were countered by Pikachu's Thunderbolt and Goodra's Dragon Pulse. Gyarados then managed to stop Charizard from attacking Pyroar by striking it with a super effective Stone Edge. Eventually Pyroar was defeated, leaving Gyarados to face its opponents on its own.

Continuing the battle, Gyarados used Hyper Beam to counter Pikachu's Thunderbolt and Noivern's Boomburst and then defeated Noivern with a Dragon Tail. After withstanding a Dragon Claw and High Jump Kick from Charizard and Hawlucha respectively, it managed to bite down the latter and throw him to the ground, defeating him. Gyarados was then hit by a Thunder Punch and Dragon Pulse, but it managed to endure these attacks as well and defeated Goodra with a single Hyper Beam. Ash's Greninja and Talonflame then charged towards it using Cut and Flame Charge, but it knocked them into the air using Stone Edge before slamming them down again with Dragon Tail, defeating Talonflame. As it fired off another Hyper Beam, Malva appeared who had her Mega Houndoom counter it with Flamethrower. Its Incinerate was then countered by Greninja's Water Shuriken.

Later, Lysandre was still persistent to continue the fight, despite having heard about the destruction of Team Flare's control machine. In the following episode, Gyarados fired off its Hyper Beam, only to be dodged by Pikachu. It was then hit in succession by a Quick Attack, Cut, and Dragon Claw and was finally defeated by Pikachu's Thunderbolt.

Its circumstances following the disappearance of its Trainer are unknown.

Personality and characteristics

Very little is known about Gyarados's personality as it was only seen during battle against Ash and Alain. It has been shown to be very powerful, being able to withstand multiple hits from Ash's and Alain's Pokémon and defeat four of Ash's Pokémon on its own.

Gyarados first appeared in They Have a Flare for a Li'l Kanga-Napping where it was first seen with its Trainer in Lumiose City watching the footage of Xerneas and Yveltal's battle in Vaniville Town.

At Lysandre Café, Gyarados was used to scare Trevor before being stopped by Diantha, who had her Gardevoir Mega Evolve to make it back off. Later, Lysandre talks to Gyarados about how it will be able to one day Mega Evolve now that he has its respective Mega Stone.

When X attacked the Team Flare Secret HQ, Lysandre used Gyarados to battle him and Mega Evolves it. With Lysandre's Mega Ring, which had its Key Stone stolen from Korrina, Gyarados can Mega Evolve into Mega Gyarados.
