Own Tempo (Japanese: マイペース My Pace) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.
Effect
In battle
Own Tempo prevents the Pokémon from being afflicted by confusion, even if it is self-inflicted (such as from moves like Thrash or items like the Iapapa Berry).
A Pokémon with this Ability will be cured of confusion if it is confused while in battle (such as if it gains the Ability by an effect like Skill Swap, or is confused by a Pokémon with an Ability like Mold Breaker). If the Pokémon with this Ability is confused and is holding a Persim, Lum, or Touga Berry, Own Tempo will cure the Pokémon of confusion before the Berry has a chance to be consumed.
Generation III
If a Pokémon with Own Tempo is confused due to obtaining it from Baton Pass, it will be cured of confusion as soon as it switches in. If a Pokémon with Trace is sent into battle via Baton Pass and is confused as a result, if it gains Own Tempo via Trace it will not be cured of confusion until after a Pokémon takes its turn (uses a move, switches out, etc.).
Generation IV
If a Pokémon with Trace is sent into battle via Baton Pass and is confused as a result, if it gains Own Tempo via Trace it will be cured of confusion immediately.
In Generation IV only, if a Pokémon is confused and has a status condition, if its confusion is cured by Own Tempo, the status condition icon will disappear from the HP bar while it is in battle. The status condition will continue to take effect, however.
If a Pokémon with Own Tempo holding a Persim or Lum Berry is confused by a move that ignores Abilities, Own Tempo will activate before the Berry has a chance to be consumed.
Generation V to VII
If a Pokémon with Own Tempo is confused due to obtaining it from Baton Pass, it will not be cured of confusion until after a Pokémon takes its turn (uses a move, switches out, etc.).
If a Pokémon with Own Tempo holding a Persim or Lum Berry is confused by a move that ignores Abilities, the Berry will be eaten before Own Tempo can cure the Pokémon of confusion.
Generation VIII onward
Own Tempo now also blocks Intimidate.
Outside of battle
Rockruff with Own Tempo is treated as a separate form, which is only capable of evolving into Dusk Form Lycanroc. The Ability Capsule and Ability Patch are unable to change Rockruff's Ability from or to Own Tempo. Due to the form inheritance rules when breeding, if a Rockruff with Own Tempo or a Dusk Form Lycanroc is the mother or is bred with Ditto, it will produce more Rockruff with Own Tempo.
Own Tempo Rockruff and Dusk Form Lycanroc are incompatible with Pokémon Sun and Moon. They cannot be traded to these games and are excluded from the Wonder Trade.

Pokémon Adventures
- In Rayquaza Redemption I, Norman's Spinda was revealed to have Own Tempo as its Ability, but it was Skill Swapped with his Slaking's Truant Ability.
- In Well Met, Weepinbell, Diamond's Lickilicky, Kit, was revealed to have Own Tempo as his Ability, but it couldn't be used because Sebastian's Weepinbell cancelled it out with Gastro Acid.
Trivia
- Due to a glitch in Generation IV, if a Pokémon has a non-volatile status condition and has its confusion cured by Own Tempo, the status condition icon will disappear from the HP bar while that Pokémon is in battle; however, it will still be displayed in the party menu and will be restored if the Pokémon switches out and then back in. The same is true for infatuation and Oblivious.
