Emerald chapter

Latias is first seen with Latios, where they transport Emerald to the Hoenn Battle Frontier. Upon landing, Emerald thanks the two for their help and waves goodbye.

After his conquest of the Battle Factory, Emerald calls Latias and Latios down to help him investigate the Sceptile he took from there. With their help, Emerald comes to the conclusion that the Sceptile is not a rental Pokémon and someone must have planted it in the Battle Factory. The conversation is interrupted by the appearance of Tucker and Brandon, forcing Latias and Latios to leave. After Emerald conquers the Battle Pike, he meets with Latias, who appears disguised as a maid. Latias introduces herself to Emerald's friend, the reporter, and tells him about Emerald's ability to pacify Pokémon that have gone out of control. Latias assists Emerald in finding more smuggled Pokémon and pacifying them before they go berserk and attack innocent people.

As Emerald challenges the Battle Pyramid, the Frontier Brains discover that one of their allies was attacked and several rental Pokémon were taken from the Battle Factory. Fearing that they may blame Emerald after taking Sceptile from the Battle Factory, the reporter heads to the Battle Pyramid to warn Emerald. As he runs over, he bumps into Latias, who appears in the guise of a member of the press. Using her and Latios's Sight Sharing ability, Latias shows the reporter a scene of Emerald battling at the top of the Battle Pyramid from Latios's perspective. After Emerald conquers the Battle Pyramid, he is confronted by the Frontier Brains, who ask him about the Sceptile he took. Emerald explains that he isn't the one who stole the rental Pokémon, and that his mission at the Battle Frontier is to find the Mythical Pokémon Jirachi. The Frontier Brains find this reveal suspicious, but decide to trust Emerald and follow him to Artisan Cave, where Jirachi currently resides. Emerald leads the Frontier Brains by sea with Latias and Latios helping him move over the water.

During Emerald's challenge of the Battle Dome, the reporter looks over the various photos he took of Emerald. He shuffles the pictures, but accidentally cuts his finger in the process. After calling the front desk for some disinfectant, Latias appears, disguised as a nurse with a first aid kit. Latias reveals to the reporter that Emerald asked her to help investigate the armored man, Guile Hideout. When Guile manages to capture Jirachi and attacks innocents with the stolen rental Pokémon, Latias takes the reporter to go investigate and meets with Latios. They head to the Battle Palace, where they meet with Spenser, who begins revealing Guile Hideout's secrets. With their sight sharing, Latias and Latios relay this information to Emerald, forcing Guile to reveal his true identity.

Guile uses Jirachi to create a gigantic fake Kyogre made of seawater to flood the entire Battle Frontier. Latias and Latios assist during the battle by taking innocents to safety while Emerald and the other Pokédex holders battle Guile. Latias also assists by using Hometown Soil from Faraway Island to free all the rental Pokémon from Guile's control. After Guile is defeated, Latias and Latios watch as Emerald celebrates Guile's defeat with his new friends. Feeling that Emerald now has true companions, Latias and Latios decide to return to their home on Southern Island.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire chapter

In the thirteenth chapter, Latias and Latios hear the sound of the Eon Flute being played on Southern Island. Latias initially thinks Emerald is the one playing the melody, only to find that it's not. Latias disguises herself as an explorer and goes down to see the person, who turns out to be Ruby. Ruby asks the two to take him to the Sky Pillar, due to some strange things happening in the Hoenn region. Latios agrees and goes off with Ruby while asking Latias to stay behind. Latias later travels to the Sea Mauville, where she finds Emerald and Sapphire helping Mr. Stone and Steven Stone power a machine that will help stop a meteoroid that will crash into the planet. She watches as Sapphire's Chic and Emerald's Sceptile are hooked to a machine that begins draining their life energy and relays this information to Latios and Ruby via Sight Sharing. The process horrifies Latias, who closes her eyes, preventing Latios and Ruby from seeing the process being finished.

After Ruby arrives at the Sea Mauville with Latios, he asks Drake to take him to Meteor Falls. As they travel, Latias and Latios help Ruby and Emerald get acquainted with Diancie and Hoopa, the two Mythical Pokémon that they had befriended earlier. They are shocked at the appearance of Groudon and Kyogre, who were summoned from their respective places of slumber by Hoopa after it was tricked by Blaise and Amber. Latias and Latios transport Ruby and Emerald through the air as they try to stop the two super-ancient Pokémon, but their attempts to stop them are easily shrugged off.

Groudon and Kyogre continue advancing until they reach their destination, where they are transformed into their Primal forms. The now stronger Groudon and Kyogre begin exerting power into the air, making it hard for Latias and Latios to get close. They eventually manage to break through and continue their attempts to stop the super-ancient Pokémon, but are soon blown out of the sky by a combined attack. The culprits who caused Groudon and Kyogre's transformation are revealed to be Maxie and Archie, who gloat over the defeat of their opponents.

Personality and characteristics

Latias is the younger of the twin Pokémon. Like her older brother, Latios, she is friends with Emerald, who they affectionately call "Em" (Japanese: ラルド Rald ). Despite Emerald's claim to dislike Pokémon, he doesn't mind the company of Latias and Latios and even asks for their assistance at times. Like her brother, Latias can speak through telepathy, but only people she chooses can hear her thoughts.

Unlike Latios, Latias possesses the ability to change her appearance by using her feathers to refract light. By using this ability, Latias can make herself look like a human, allowing her to blend in with her surroundings. By using their Sight Sharing, Latias and Latios can show an image of what they're viewing to anyone.

When Guile attacks the Battle Frontier after capturing Jirachi, Emerald is forced to leave his team at the Battle Palace while he tries to confront Guile at the Battle Tower. There, he faces Anabel, who was put under Guile's mind control, but is eventually defeated despite having new Pokémon to use in battle. Latios arrives in time to deliver Emerald's regular team, which have successfully obtained the Spirit Symbol. After Guile begins flooding the Battle Frontier with his fake Kyogre, Latios and Latias assist during the battle by taking innocents to safety while Emerald and the other Pokédex holders battle Guile. Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire chapter

In the thirteenth chapter, Latios and Latias hear the sound of the Eon Flute being played on Southern Island. When they go down, they find out that the player was Ruby. Ruby asks the two to take him to the Sky Pillar, due to some strange things happening in the Hoenn region. Latios agrees and goes off with Ruby while asking Latias to stay behind. With Ruby's Mega Bracelet and Latios's Latiosite, Latios Mega Evolves into Mega Latios, allowing him and Ruby to soar into the sky. They travel to the Sky Pillar and begin traversing it. Eventually they run into Zinnia, who attacks them under the impression that they are intruders. After Ruby and Latios manage to defeat Zinnia, she reveals that the planet is in danger of being destroyed by a meteoroid.

After Zinnia leaves, Ruby and Latios decide to spend the rest of the night camping inside the Sky Pillar. The next day, they begin heading back to their friends, but are attacked by three Draconids, who demand to know why Ruby was at the Sky Pillar. They battle for some time, but decide against it after realizing that both sides are not enemies. The Draconids tell Ruby about Zinnia's goal, but are forced to leave when pieces of the meteoroid begin falling down. Latios is struck by a falling rock, causing him and Ruby to plummet into the sea. They later awaken inside a cave, where Latios reveals to be the home of Diancie, who found and saved Ruby and Latios from drowning. Latios uses his ability to see through Latias's eyes to check up on Emerald, revealing that they are all at Sea Mauville. Latias watches as Sapphire's Chic and Emerald's Sceptile are hooked to a machine that begins draining their life energy. The process horrifies Latias, who closes her eyes, preventing Latios and Ruby from seeing the process being finished. Shocked at what is going on, Ruby decides to immediately go to his friends to get some answers. With Diancie joining them, Ruby and Latios head to Sea Mauville.

After they arrive at Sea Mauville, Ruby asks Drake to take him to Meteor Falls. As they travel, Latios and Latias help Ruby and Emerald get acquainted with Diancie and Hoopa.
