(Japanese: グリングス・コーダイ Grings Kōdai), often referred to by simply his surname Kōdai, is a character in and the central antagonist of Ruler of Illusions: Zoroark. His Japanese voice actor is 陣内孝則 Takanori Jinnai.

History

Kōdai is the president of a powerful corporation bearing his name, the Kōdai Network, with a secretary and assistant named Rioka and a bodyguard, Goon. He is shown in a news broadcast planning to enter the Pokémon Backer World Cup in Crown City using Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.

However, unbeknown to all but his assistants, he has abducted two mysterious Pokémon, Zorua and its mother Zoroark. He blackmails Zoroark into attacking Crown City in the guises of his legendary beasts by threatening the safety of her child. Zorua escapes, but this does not harm Kōdai's plan, as Zoroark is unaware of that fact.

Kōdai possesses a strange power; at times, he will begin to hallucinate painfully and have a vision of the future. He plans to capture Celebi, who has appeared in Crown City from twenty years in the future, with the goal of finding the "ripple of time." A vision he has early in the story reveals to him that Ash and his friends will oppose him before he even meets them.

He is known as a man with ruthless ambition and is widely recognized for his business success, even having a magazine published following his exploits.

Rioka later reveals to Ash and his friends that Kōdai was directly responsible for a disaster that befell Crown City twenty years prior. He discovered Celebi in the city and touched the "ripple of time" produced from its time traveling - which was how he obtained his future sight abilities - but this resulted in all the greenery of Crown City withering away which have costed the citizens of Crown City for 20 years to recover the greenery.

Because the abilities he gained from touching the "ripple of time" slowly disappear, Kōdai is madly desperate to find it once again so he can renew them.

His visions and pursuit of Celebi ultimately lead him to the Pokémon Backer Stadium, where he finds what he believes to be the true Ripple of Time. After disposing of Celebi and Zorua, he begins to absorb its power but is attacked by Zoroark, revealing that the Ripple of Time is merely an illusion. Angered, he violently attacks Zoroark, but Celebi uses the power of the real Ripple of Time to heal her. When he finds himself cornered by Zoroark as well as the Legendary Beasts that serve as guardians of Crown City, Kōdai escapes, but begins hallucinating and trips over a guardrail, falling to the field of the stadium and knocking himself out. When he comes to, a video created by Kurt is broadcasting throughout the city, ruining his reputation.

During the credits of the movie, the news report published by Kurt and Rioka reveals that Kōdai and Goon were both arrested and sent to jail.
