Spearow (Japanese: オニスズメ Onisuzume) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.

In the anime
Major appearances
Ash was attacked by a large flock of Spearow in Pokémon - I Choose You! after he hit one Spearow on the head with a rock to weaken it (because Pikachu refused to obey and battle). The flock of Spearow returned, with the leader as a Fearow in Pallet Party Panic! The flock reappeared in a flashback to that episode Ash had in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
Minor appearances
Ash's Charmander was attacked by a flock of Spearow in Charmander – The Stray Pokémon.
A Trainer that attacked a Lapras had a Spearow in The Lost Lapras.
It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part One.
Another flock appeared in DP140, similar to the first episode.

Trivia
- Spearow supposedly see in black and white, as seen in Pokémon, I Choose You!.
- Spearow is the only Pokémon that doesn't have three heads and isn't related to the Porygon family that can learn Tri Attack. It should be noted, however, that can be done only by Breeding, and many Pokémon could learn it via TM in Generation I, or can have it as a special move.
- Spearow shares the same species name with Pidgey and Natu. They are all known as Tiny Bird Pokémon, though Natu has also been called a Little Bird Pokémon.
- In Pokémon Red and Blue the Glitch Pokémon Chiisai-u can evolve into Spearow at level 9.
- Despite multiple Pokédex entries testifying to its inability to fly long distances, as well as its diminutive stature, Spearow can learn Fly.
Origin
It has been suggested that Spearow resembles a falcon of some sort rather than a sparrow. Appearance-wise, it is very much based on a kestrel.
Name origin
Spearow's name may be a combination of the words spear and sparrow. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean 鬼雀, demon sparrow.
