Hi Jump Kick (Japanese: とびひざげり Jumping Knee Kick) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I. Prior to Generation III, it was the signature move of Hitmonlee.
Effect
Generation I
Hi Jump Kick does damage with a Base Power of 85; however, if the attack misses, the user will crash and lose 1 HP for crashed damage. Used against a Template:Type2, it always counts as a miss.
If the user of Hi Jump Kick attacks first and faints itself due to crash damage, the target will not attack or be subjected to recurrent damage during that round.
Generation II-III
The user loses half the HP of the damage it would have done for crashed damage. If used against a Template:Type2, user does not take crash damage.
Generation IV
Same as before, but its Base Power was increased from 85 to 100. The user also takes crash damage if hitting a Ghost-type Pokémon. Hi Jump Kick cannot be used if Gravity is in effect.
Generation V
The Base Power was increased from 100 to 130, and the PP was reduced from 20 to 10. The recoil now deals damage equal to half of the user's max HP rounded down.
