Whirlpool is a mostly accurate Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II that deals very little damage. It was the first HM move to lose its HM status, and was later followed by Flash and Dive.
Effect
Generation II
In battle
Does damage, traps foe for 2-5 turns, damaging them slightly each turn.
Outside of battle
Clears whirlpools in the field.
Generation III and on
Does damage, traps foe for 2-5 turns, damaging them slightly each turn.
In the anime
Pokémon
Piplup glows a blue-white color. It then opens it mouth and a huge Whirlpool is released from it.
