Route 24 (Japanese: 24番道路 Route 24) is a route located in northern Kanto. It connects Cerulean City in the south to Route 25 in the north. Most of the route encompasses the Nugget Bridge (Japanese: ゴールデンボールブリッジ Golden Ball Bridge), a location where five Trainers will challenge the player one by one. Upon defeating every Trainer on the bridge, a disguised Team Rocket Grunt will reward the player with a Nugget.
Route description
The actual southern terminus of the route is at the southern extent of the bridge. Route 24 follows the length of the bridge north, running parallel to an express path to the east that originates on Route 25, allowing Trainers to travel from Cerulean Cape to Cerulean City (but not vice versa) quickly.
At the northern end of the bridge, the route opens up at a virtual three-way intersection. To the west is a long, narrow strip of land that contains Route 24's lone patch of grass containing a Trainer and wild Pokémon. This location also serves as the docking platform for a water body that leads to an otherwise inaccessible portion of Route 4,RBYFRLGPE as well as Cerulean CaveRBYFRLGHGSSPE or the site of the Berserk Gene northwest of Cerulean.GSC The water body can be crossed with SurfRBYGSCFRLGHGSS or the Secret Technique Sea Skim.PE
To the north of the bridge is a small plateau containing a variety of items and people, with the actual contents varying not only by Generation, but also by game version. In Generation I, TM45 (Thunder Wave) is found here. In Generation II, no items are present; however, a tree containing a hidden item is present. In Generation III, TM45 (Attract) is found here. In Generation VII, three Razz Berries are found here. Additionally, in Pokémon Yellow and Generation VII, a non-battling Trainer is found here, offering his Charmander to any Trainer that will provide better care for him.
Southeast of the plateau, Route 24 turns to the east and becomes Route 25.
In Generations I, III, and VII, the corner connecting Routes 24 and 25 is considered a part of Route 24. In Generations II and IV, it is included with Route 25.

Differences among generations
In Generation II, the Nugget Bridge Trainers are no longer present. Instead, the challenge has moved to Route 25. Also, the grassy area along the narrow strip of land has been reduced by half, allowing the lower portion to become a grass-free docking station. The route also ends immediately after leaving the Nugget Bridge.
In Generation IV, Route 24 is nearly identical in structure to Generation III with the exception of a few minor changes. The Trainers on the Nugget Bridge are no longer present and have moved their challenge to Route 25 and the territory that Route 24 occupies is the same as Generation II. Another change is that the bridge is above the water, instead of being over land like in previous generations. There is also a tiny strip of land in front of a fence that goes along the path to the right of the bridge.
In the anime
Main series
Charmander - The Stray Pokémon is mentioned to take place at Route 24. However, it is stated that Routes 24 and 25 lead to Vermilion City, instead of Route 6.
Pokémon Evolutions
In The Discovery, Green crossed the Nugget Bridge on her way to Cerulean Cave, easily defeating the Trainers on the bridge along the way.
In the manga
Pokémon Adventures
Route 24 debuted in ...But Fearow Itself!, where it was revealed that Red had caught a Bellsprout. Red also tried to capture a peculiar-looking Rattata, which turned out to actually be Bill, who had accidentally fused himself with a Rattata while fixing his Pokémon Transport System.
Trivia
- In Generations I, III, and VII, the Team Rocket Grunt on the Nugget Bridge says "I'll make you an offer you can't refuse" before challenging the player. This is a reference to the 1972 crime film The Godfather.
- This route and Route 25 are the two northernmost places in Kanto in Generations I, III, and VII. In Generations II and IV, the northernmost part of this route is considered part of Route 25.
- The Nugget Bridge in this route is known in Generation III for the ability to obtain infinite Nuggets. If the player loses to the Team Rocket Grunt, they will be back at the Pokémon Center, with the Nugget they obtained from the Rocket grunt. However, this does not work in Generation I because the player is only given one chance to fight this Grunt. Nonetheless, this creates a mistake in Generation I: if the player loses to the Grunt, and then returns to speak with him, the Grunt speaks as if the player won.
- This happens because the flag that causes further Nuggets to be unobtainable from the same person is erroneously set only if the player wins.
- This happens only in the Japanese and English versions of the games, as it was fixed in the European versions.
- Four of the Trainers on Nugget Bridge all say, "I did my best, I have no regrets," after the player defeats them. The second Lass on the bridge, however, says, "I did my best, so I've no regrets," instead.
- This is the only Kanto location where a member of Team Rocket can be battled in Generations II and IV, excluding the event-exclusive battle with Giovanni at the Tohjo Falls in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
- Route 24 is the first route to be mentioned by name in the anime.
- In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, the player can challenge a group of Trainers at Malie Garden, with them copying the Generation I Nugget Bridge right down to using the same Pokémon teams and dialogue as the Nugget Bridge Trainers from Pokémon Red and Blue, despite many of them not being native to Alola. The reward for defeating the Trainers there is a Big Nugget.
